Dear Council
Our community is being impacted on a daily basis by environmental hazards like lead and fossil fuels. We need to treat
this like the emergency it is and put in place protections for all Santa Ana residents. The resolution brought forward by
Councilmember Lopez is a good first step and roadmap for actions our community can take to resolve these pressing
issues.
Fossil fuels don't just exacerbate climate change, but also poison people. Study after study has shown that extracting,
transporting, refining, and burning fossil fuels harms environmental and human health – and new evidence shows that
toxic air pollution from fossil fuels also makes people more vulnerable to poor outcomes from COVID.
We must phase out fossil fuels from our daily lives – whether it’s gas stoves causing asthma, tailpipes blanketing our
streets with smog, or gas stations poisoning water supplies and spreading cancerous chemicals like benzene. It’s clear
we must start moving to clean energy systems – and soon. Our community should be running on clean, renewable
energy no later than 2030.
But it's not just fossil fuels that are harming our community. Many neighborhoods in Santa Ana suffer from
disproportionately high levels of lead in their soil, which can lead to serious developmental and health issues. The city
must do more and protect our residents.
Addressing these issues won't just improve our health, it will also improve our local economy. The Biden administration
is investing money in green infrastructure buildout, and we need to make sure we have shovel ready jobs prepared.

Thank you so much for prioritizing health related to climate risk and clean air and soil in Santa Ana.
As the Notre Dame Climate Risk Study indicates, (see below for reference), Santa Ana is indicated to be the
City with the highest risk, but second lowest preparation score.
Please consider the boldest goals you can for addressing the reduction of emissions. The evidence of heat and
health impact for residents and businesses is here now.
Please vote for Santa Ana to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, instead of the State mandated 2045.
We need to move to electrification as fast as possible, so considering Community Choice Energy adoption is the
first necessary step to do so.

implore you to please set your renewable energy targets for 2030 to assist with carbon neutrality goals. A target
of 2045 is not bold enough for the catch-up that now needs to happen to avoid the worst of an uninhabitable
future. Your participation in the Orange County Power Authority further demonstrates your commitment to
doing the most you can to improve the quality of life of Santa Ana residents and stimulate the local

Subject:Pass The Climate Resolution - Item 33 - on Tonite's Agenda
Dear Mayor & City Council Members,
Tonite is historic. Please pass the Climate Resolution introduced by Jessie Lopez and reviewed by city legal.
In this resolutions are SOLUTIONS that will grow our economy, reduce our pollution, improve our health, and
lead the way on renewable energy. We are paying for the hidden cost of pollution.
The cost is real and I live with it every day seeing my daughter suffer for the health impacts. She is 17 and
should be enjoying her senior year at her Santa Ana school. I also saw my whole town burn after a forest fire
many years ago due to kicking the can down the road on solutions that already exist. It doesn’t need to be this
way.
If we take action like this and see it through, we will reduce impact of fossil fuels causing these catastrophic
fires, heatwaves, weather events, and increases in health-relate illnesses caused by pollution. We are paying
trillions along with the priceless loss of our forests, our oceans, our diversity - when if we just implemented
these solutions we would actually have save more money, save more lives, and protect our children’s future.
An unprecedented 220 editors of medical journals are calling for urgent climate action in a joint plea issued this
week - New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, The British Journal and our own local health officials.
Plus 29 medical societies, including the American Medical Association, are calling for the urgent transition
away from fossil fuels. According to recent testimony to Congress, policies which reduce emissions sufficient
for global temperature rise to stay less than 2℃ would prevent roughly 4.5 million premature deaths, about 3.5
million hospitalizations and emergency room visits, and approximately 300 million lost workdays in the US
over the next 50 years.
Tonite you have the greatest opportunity to show our city and our state - that you are leading the way on a
green economy, reducing pollution, going carbon neutral, and supporting green spaces.
Let’s spur our economy. Let’s save money, our forests, and our health with renewable enery. Let’s reduce our
health costs by reducing pollution. Let’s know we did everything we can so that the younger generation does
pay the price for inaction. Let’s move with a sense of fierce urgency and confidence.
Tonite you all will make a world of difference for decades to come. Let’s do this for Santa Ana!

My name is Susan and I was a 31-year teacher in Santa Ana.
Thank you so much for considering the Community Choice Energy program to offer to the residents. I support
this program because it will save customers money, brings revenue to the community by keeping the rate payer
dollars in Santa Ana, prevents rolling blackouts, makes our grid more resilient, and allows us to convert to
renewable energy faster.
When Santa Ana joins with other cities, the program would generate $92 million per year in revenue by 2031.
This money can be used for COVID relief as so many cities are doing now, EV charging stations, subsidies for
electric vehicles, green public transportation -- all sorts of programs to green OC. Imagine a future like this for
Santa Ana.

Subject:Santa Ana deserves to be healthy and safe
Dear Santa Ana City Council and Mayor Sarmiento,
Our community is being impacted on a daily basis by environmental hazards like lead and fossil fuels. We need to treat
this like the emergency it is and put in place protections for all Santa Ana residents. The resolution brought forward by
Councilmember Lopez is a good first step and roadmap for actions our community can take to resolve these pressing
issues.
Fossil fuels don't just exacerbate climate change, but also poison people. Study after study has shown that extracting,
transporting, refining, and burning fossil fuels harms environmental and human health – and new evidence shows that
toxic air pollution from fossil fuels also makes people more vulnerable to poor outcomes from COVID.
We must phase out fossil fuels from our daily lives – whether it’s gas stoves causing asthma, tailpipes blanketing our
streets with smog, or gas stations poisoning water supplies and spreading cancerous chemicals like benzene. It’s clear
we must start moving to clean energy systems – and soon. Our community should be running on clean, renewable
energy no later than 2030.
But it's not just fossil fuels that are harming our community. Many neighborhoods in Santa Ana suffer from
disproportionately high levels of lead in their soil, which can lead to serious developmental and health issues. The city
must do more and protect our residents.
Addressing these issues won't just improve our health, it will also improve our local economy. The Biden administration
is investing money in green infrastructure buildout, and we need to make sure we have shovel ready jobs prepared.
What's more, cleaning up environmental pollution and converting our energy systems are massive job opportunities that
could bring family-wage jobs to thousands of people in Santa Ana.
I’m writing to you today to ask you to please pass the climate and public health emergency resolution that calls for an
end to fossil fuel expansion, clean renewable energy choices that save money, actions that will reduce lead and other
environmental toxins in our neighborhoods, family-wage jobs, and an endorsement of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation
Treaty initiative. We can reduce pollution that is cooking the planet and poisoning our communities while improving the
quality of life for every Santa Ana resident.
Please please pass this resolution and commit to taking local action to explore policies that stop fossil fuel expansion,
speed up the clean energy transition, reduce local pollution, and empower our local community and economy.
In order to ensure a resilient economy that is clean and sustainable for our health and our children's health we must
treat our climate crisis as the emergency it is and take all actions necessary to protect our future. The time is now to act
within our 10-year window while there's still a chance to ensure that we humans can survive on this planet which is not
a red or blue issue it is a human issue and is way past due time that the city of Santa Ana takes bold action to solve this
crisis now.

Dear Community Leaders,
As a 31-year teacher in the SAUSD, I am especially grateful that you will be voting and hopefully passing on September 7
the Climate and Public Health Emergency Resolution for Santa Ana!!
It is really exciting to see Santa Ana stepping up to be one of the first cities in the U.S. to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-
Proliferation Treaty and bring the city into alignment with the SAFE Cities movement.
I am really excited to see Santa Ana taking this initiative to be a leader in the County, Country and the World on a path
to an environment safe from environmental toxins, fossil fuels, and climate change.
