HomeMy WebLinkAboutPresentation - #36H ALL Recommendations from the School Collaboration OPW Ad Hoc Committee SANTA ANA M School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee Slide 2 City Manager's Office 09/07/2021 About the Ad Hoc Committee • The Mayor recently appointed four (4) ad hoc committees, including the School Collaboration Ad Hoc Committee. • The Ad Hoc Committee is composed of CounciImembers Mendoza, Hernandez, and Lopez. • The Ad Hoc Committee has met five times to review and discuss the fol lowing: — Opportunities to collaborate with the various educational institutions in Santa Ana — Joint -Use agreements — The Santa Ana Water Tower School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee Slide 3 City Manager's Office 09/07/2021 Ad Hoc Committee's Recommendations 1. Disband the Ad Hoc Committee. 2. Consider a resolution to establish a standing subcommittee that could jointly meet with the Santa Ana Unified School District Governing Board and legislative bodies from other educational institutions —to be referred to as the School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee. School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee 4"­Mxzw�_ Slide 4 City Manager's Office 09/07/2021 M School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee Slide 5 City Manager's Office 09/07/2021 School Collaboration Ci.ty.Cou.nci.I..Su.bcomm.ittee ...................................................................................... • Purpose: to study, review, and/or discuss the following topics: — Create opportunities to collaborate with educational institutions that serve Santa Ana, including public school districts (such as the Santa Ana Unified School District, Garden Grove Unified School Districts, and others), private schools, charter schools, higher education institutions, and others to improve service delivery — Identify existing and future joint -use agreements for City -owned and school district -owned facilities to streamline and modernize service delivery M School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee Slide 6 City Manager's Office 09/07/2021 Make -Up of the Subcommittee • The Subcommittee will create and approve its own by-laws that will provide further detail relating to its scope of work of advising the City Council. • Provisions of these by-laws will include, among other parameters, a recurring meeting schedule. • The Subcommittee will consist of two or three members who are appointed by a majority of the entire City Council and will serve a two-year term. • The City will seek to convene Subcommittee meetings jointly with legislative bodies from other educational institutions. — To date, the City has received notification from the Santa Ana Unified School District that their Governing Board is interesting in meeting jointly with the Subcommittee. Subcommittee meetings will be subject to the Brown Act.
