Subject:Planning Commission Public Comment for Agenda Item 1 - July 13th 2020 meeting
Date:Friday, July 10, 2020 1:35:37 PM
Dear Planning Commission,
I am opposed to the recommendations that the Commission aims to put to the City Council.
I am really concerned that agenda item number one on the July 13th, 2020 agenda, does little
to nothing to provide proper notice and information to the residents of the properties which thecommission plans to recommend for rezoning. I am additionally concerned that the 9 residents
who appeared at the informational meeting regarding this redevelopment proposal back inMarch 2018 were not reflective of the specific properties which the Agenda Item and
proposals will affect.
A recent resident-led effort blocked the development of 2525 N Main Street under therationale that any City redevelopment proposals should seek better input of the communities
any redevelopment will be taking place. Park Santiago holds a different demographic than theSanta Anita neighborhood. As such, I am concerned that the City is prioritizing the desires of
the most privileged residents, private developers, while disregarding low-income, mixed-status, multi-generational, renter households of the City (this agenda item/proposal specifically
regards such residents of the Santa Anita neighborhood).
Please do not continue with the recommendations as proposed on the agenda. Please ensurethat the residents, whose lives you will be directly impacting with this private developers
proposals, have a chance to offer their input regarding changes in their neighborhood andcommunity.
Best regards,
