Subject: Re: Planning Commission Public Comment for Agenda Item 1 - July 13th 2020 meeting
Good afternoon,
I wanted to add my voice to this, since this is the first I've heard about this proposal. I amgreatly concerned that the community outreach and input component is missing here. I am also
a resident in Ward 5. I object to this proposal because I have seen first hand how when people do not have any
input on the things that affect them most (when decisions are being handed down from outsideand "above") it is very disempowering and people begin to feel and act out desperation.
Especially when they have tried to communicate their needs and wishes for their lives andhomes.
I hope that you can look at how things have been handled in the past and take what hasworked while being open to making changes that will benefit those most in need. I'm tired of
seeing our city sold off to the highest bidders while our families get pushed further and furtherinto poverty and the fringe of this beautiful city we all call home. I hope that you as our
elected officials/voices would help us reach new heights of what is possible. Be innovatorsand leaders in uplifting our children and leading the way to constructive alternatives.
High cost apartments in this area will only serve to create deeper division between the havesand have nots. This is not what we need. Especially now when so many are out of work and or
sick. I hope that you will take this opportunity to co-create a sustainable future with residentsfor Santa Ana.
Please don't discount my voice or other residents voices just because we have a differentperspective (there is value in that diversity). Please don't disregard us because we have
different experiences ( there's hidden insight in those different experiences). Please don't mockor toss us aside because we didn't have the same education or because we are poor or because
you don't think we are in the majority. All of us should count and matter to you. We are part ofyour city too. I don't want to be priced out of where my family has lived for over 60 yrs.
We've already had to stop going downtown because everything is geared towards higherincome people. Where do you think all the displaced families are gonna go? Even if all the
poor people have to move out there are so many consequences that are quite far reaching.Maybe it won't be a problem in your city any more. But that doesn't mean it's not a problem.
I'm not opposed to building more housing and other projects that will grow our city. Butgrowth doesn't mean replacing current residents with those who can afford high end living.
Growth means that you aren't treating people as disposable. Growth must be sustainable andwe must include residents so that we can feel included and empowered in where this city and
our lives are going.
Thank you,
Marlha Sanchez

Dear Planning Commission,
I am opposed to the recommendations that the Commission aims to put to the City Council.
I am really concerned that agenda item number one on the July 13th, 2020 agenda, doeslittle to nothing to provide proper notice and information to the residents of the properties
which the commission plans to recommend for rezoning. I am additionally concerned thatthe 9 residents who appeared at the informational meeting regarding this redevelopment
proposal back in March 2018 were not reflective of the specific properties which theAgenda Item and proposals will affect.
A recent resident-led effort blocked the development of 2525 N Main Street under the
rationale that any City redevelopment proposals should seek better input of the communitiesany redevelopment will be taking place. Park Santiago holds a different demographic than
the Santa Anita neighborhood. As such, I am concerned that the City is prioritizing thedesires of the most privileged residents, private developers, while disregarding low-income,
mixed-status, multi-generational, renter households of the City (this agenda item/proposalspecifically regards such residents of the Santa Anita neighborhood).
Please do not continue with the recommendations as proposed on the agenda. Please ensure
that the residents, whose lives you will be directly impacting with this private developersproposals, have a chance to offer their input regarding changes in their neighborhood and
community.
Best regards,Nathaniel Greensides
Ward 5 Resident
