Good evening Chair, Vice Chair,
My name is Roy Afusia a resident in the Beautiful City of Santa Ana for
over 19 years. My wife and I purchase our home and raised our three
kids 19,17, and 11 in this city. Today, I am writing as the Business
Representative for Sprinkler Fitters UA Local 709. On behalf of our
members, we urge you to approve the “3rd and Broadway” Project in
Santa Ana. The Project will be the tallest in the county and it will be
the safest and greenest building. A building with 171 multi-family
housing units, a 75 room hotel, mixed use retail shopping with public
parking.
The Developer, Mr. Mike Harrah for, Caribou Industries has done his
homework and research and has committed to the Building Trades to
complete the negotiations of the Project Labor Agreement. The
Building Trades Council can provide the project with skilled and
trained workers, strong safety standards, apprenticeship opportunities
for Santa Ana and other Orange County resident and support for our
Veterans with the Helmets to Hardhats program.
The project will create hundreds of jobs and earn a living wage. High
skilled construction jobs and these jobs have a significant multiplier
effect on other jobs. Rather than spending hours away from home, our
members would love to work closer to home in their community so that
they may have more time with their family.
Once again we thank you for your time and service and your attention
to this important matter. We urge you to please approve this
wonderful Project.
