What is the name of the neighborhood where you reside?
West Floral Park
How do you describe your community to someone who hasn't visited? What streets/boundaries define
your community?
Our micro community would be West Floral Park but our large community would be the neighborhoods of
West Floral Park (WFP), Floral Park (FP), Jack Fisher Park (JFP), and Morrison -Eldridge Park (MEP) and then
even further including Park Santiago. Geographically, we would be described as North of 17th Street bordered
by Bristol on the West and Broadway on the East. The WFP, FP, JFP, and MEP neighborhoods are all one
community in my eye. We share two parks (Fisher Park and Morrison Park), have common housing
infrastructure with many similiar single family homes from the same time period and complementary facades,
we send our kids to the same K-8 school (Santiago), share many WFP, FP, JFP, MEP community events both
formal neighborhood association events (Home Tour, Garden Tour, 4th of July, events in the park, etc...), and
overall consider ourselves one community. Further, to the West we would consider the Riverview neighborhood
and further to the East the Park Santiago neighborhoods to be part of our community. South of 17th Street it
seems our neighborhoods do not combine as much on activities btw. Our WFP, FP, JFP, and MEP communities
are well maintained landscaped street with mature trees and kids playing in the streets. Santiago school which
provides K through 8 really is a big part of our neighborhood communities as schools seem to bring
families/residents together- especially elementary schools.
What are the major culturaUrecreationaUeducationaUreligious institutions in your community?
See above about neighborhood events, Santiago elementary. Fisher Park is shared by 3 if not all 4 of our direct
communities. It actually borders 3 (WFP, JFP, FL) and then expanded to MEP also along with the actual Park in
MEP. Santiago Creek which flows through WFP, JFP, FLP and also Santiago Park neighborhoods is a common
interest point also. Flower Street is NOT a geographical boundary but instead is viewed as an integrating factor.
Does your community have major geographical boundaries/features (freeways, parks, lakes, mountains)?
See above about the broad borders of 17th to the South, Broadway to the East and then Bristol to the West.
Furthering our community would be the SA Riverbed to the West and likely Grand to the East, but remaining
north of 17th St as one community. Santiago Creek is NOT a boundary for our community btw but instead is an
integrating factor for WFP, FP, JFP, MEP and also into Park Santiago neighborhood also. Flower Street is NOT
a geographical boundary but instead is viewed as an integrating factor for our neighborhoods.
Do you have concerns about the current boundaries of your Ward?
I like our existing boundaries. I feel that the proposed map B and C for the 11/11/21 council meeting breaks up
my community of interest. We should keep WFP, JFP, FP, MEP, Park Santiago, Riverview neighborhoods
together. Because of the differences in both geography (17th Street) and also local school, I do not feel I have a
community interest connection with Washington Square or others south of 17th Street at this point.
