Good morning, City of Santa Ana,
We received notice of the upcoming hearing for the approval of a CUP to allow the operation
of a gymnasium at 2901 S. Daimler Street, Santa Ana. We understand that there is a need for
uses and activities that a gymnasium provides, and I am not writing to state that we are against
such use in a building that is zoned for industrial type uses.
As an owner of a building in the Amberwood Office Park I am simply requesting that the
Planning Commission review the parking needs of such use based on peak use. There are
many industrial buildings in Orange County that have been converted to uses for indoor sports
and the parking has been an issue and has affected adjacent or nearby property owners and/or
has caused congestion. There is limited parking at 2901 S. Daimler given the parking ratio of
the industrial buildings along Daimler Street and the Amberwood Office Park is an easy
source of parking for patrons of 2901 S. Daimler Street since our Office Park sits directly
across the street and has open and free parking.
I am sure that parking has been considered by staff; nonetheless, please make sure that it has
been adequately addressed and that the CUP might have language that addresses consequences
if offsite parking becomes an issue or has not been addressed with adjacent or nearby property
owners.
