I am writing in support of Orange County Heritage putting on Juneteenth in Centennial Park on Saturday June 15,2024. The rich
history and tradition of the Juneteenth Celebration in Centennial Regional Park organized by the Orange County Heritage
Council. (OCHC) founded the Juneteenth Celebration in Centennial Park in June 2021 as an African American community based
event in the long tradition of Freedom Day festivals since 1865 in Texas. This event holds great significance for me and our
community
My dedication to attending the festival with my family and friends, treating it like a family reunion, speaks to the sense of
community and connection that events like these can foster. It's heartwarming to see how this celebration has evolved over the
years, carrying on the spirit of unity and cultural pride.
My advocacy for the continuation of this event and the preservation of this community's traditions is commendable. It's important
for cultural events like Juneteenth to be upheld and celebrated, providing a space for communities to come together, honor their
heritage, and educate others about their history.
2
My voice as a taxpayer and member of the community is valuable, and it's essential that my concerns about dignity, respect, and
cultural preservation are heard and addressed. By supporting OC Heritage Council events like the Juneteenth Celebration, I am
not only honoring the past but also shaping a more inclusive and vibrant future for the community.
Thank you for listening to our story and your commitment as a city to keeping this important tradition alive with passion and
dedication , and I hope that the Juneteenth Celebration continues to stay in the hands of the OC Heritage Council and there 45
years in not only serving the community ,as well as saving our history and providing resources ,bringing joy and unity to all who
participate.

27
for cultural events like Juneteenth to be upheld and celebrated, providing a space for communities to come together, honor their
heritage, and educate others about their history.

This narrative is being written in support of the Orange County Heritage Council (OCHC) continuing to host the annual
Juneteenth Celebration in Santa Ana’s Centennial Park. This year’s historic event is scheduled for Saturday, June 15.
Juneteenth Celebrations are traditional events in many cities and states around the country. It originated in the wonderful
tradition of Freedom Day Festivals which began in Texas in 1865. In June 2021 , the Juneteenth Celebration in Santa Ana was
founded by the OCHC. This wonderful annual African American community based event holds great significance for our
community at large!!
The fact that it is attended by thousands is evidence of the sense of community and connection that events like these foster and
also speaks to the phenomenal job that the OCHC has done hosting since its inception! Santa Ana’s Juneteenth Celebration has
evolved greatly over the years bringing together increasing numbers of community members,
enhancing the spirit of unity, increasing cultural pride addressing the needs of residents and attendees!
Additionally, the numerous vendors have an opportunity to interact with individuals, providing the perfect opportunity to educate
thousands of individuals on the rich African American History as well as on numerous health issues!
I wholeheartedly and without reservation support the continuation of the Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Santa Ana! It is
important not only in the preservation of this community's tradition but also in our country’s history! It is important to note that
Juneteenth is not a “party” but rather a celebration commemorating the notification by federal troops that the hundreds of
thousands of African Americans who had remained in bondage in Texas 2 1/2 years after President Lincoln’s signing of the
53
Emancipation Proclamation were ordered to be freed! It is so very important cultural events like Juneteenth be continued and
celebrated by all! This provides a space for communities to come together to honor their heritage, and to educate others about
African American History which is an intricate part of American History.
It is imperative that the
voices of residents be heard. I speak on behalf of the Orange County Community at large when I share grave concerns not only
about the preservation of its Juneteenth Celebration but that it continue to be hosted by the OCHC. We request not only that we
be heard but that our concerns be addressed!
Supporting OC Heritage Council events such as the Juneteenth Celebration is a way of not only honoring the past, but also
shaping a more inclusive and vibrant future for the community at large!
Thank you in advance for not “ simply hearing our concerns”, but for truly “listening intently” . We request that you make a
sincere commitment as a body of city officials to keep the important tradition of celebrating Juneteenth alive and that it be hosted
by the OCHC! You can do so by exhibiting your passion, and dedication to this end!
Additionally, while I represent the African American Community I also speak on behalf of a diverse group of thousands more who
also request your support in this endeavor.
Lastly, we sincerely believe that it is imperative that the hosting of the Orange County Juneteenth Celebration remains in the
hands of the OC Heritage Council . This organization , which has been in existence for 45 years with the ultimate goal of serving
the community, has done so quite well! The Council preserves our history by providing numerous resources
and by bringing education, joy, pride and unity to the community. It affords to all the important opportunity to participate in this
annual historic landmark event in wonderful city of Santa Ana!
I speak on behalf of Orange County Community at large when I reiterate that we support the Orange County Heritage Council’s
stance that it remain the host of the county ‘s tremendously successful annual Juneteenth Celebration!!!

3
thousands of individuals on the rich African American History as well as on numerous health issues!
I wholeheartedly and without reservation support the continuation of the Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Santa Ana! It is
important not only in the preservation of this community's tradition but also in our country’s history! It is important to note that
Juneteenth is not a “party” but rather a celebration commemorating the notification by federal troops that the hundreds of
thousands of African Americans who had remained in bondage in Texas 2 1/2 years after President Lincoln’s signing of the
Emancipation Proclamation were ordered to be freed!
Lastly, we sincerely believe that it is imperative that the hosting of the Orange County Juneteenth Celebration remains in the

the community, has done so quite well! The Council preserves our history by providing numerous resources
