CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Garcia: · Wished everyone a Happy Cinco de Mayo · Asked Captain George Saadeh to. report on incidents of street racing activity on Bristol and MacArthur streets. Captain Saadeh noted that there are two types of street racing'that occurs on City streets: organized and spur of the moment. The Police Department does have a strategy for organized street racing. As soon as citizen complaints are received, additional officers are assigned and enforcement is increased · Noted that he had received complaints about the removal of median markers on Harbor; the City Manager responded that the markers were removed during recent street work but will be replaced · Noted that he would like more interacti~)n with the consultants relative to the citywide assessment district · Announced that there will be a soccer tournament at Centennial Park May 30 through June 1, 2003 Councilmember Solorio: · Asked that the Mayor send a letter relative to retention of funding for the Senior Nutrition Program · Announced that the annual Celebrate Santa Ana event would be held Thursday, May 15, 2003 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel in Santa Ana · Congratulated El Sol Charter School on their very successful fund raising event held downtown on May 2, 2003, and noted that the school has received tremendous support from the community · Congratulated Mike Metzler on the occasion of his 20th anniversary as President of the Santa Ana Chamber of Gommerce Councilmember Christy: · Asked the City Manager to clarify that the learning centers at New Hope and McFadden were not closing but that there has been a cut back on part time employment; the City Manager responded that even though there would be less staffing and there would not be the same level of tutoring provided, the two ~enters were not going to be closed by the City. Councilmember Christy asked the City Manager to post notices at the Centers informing residents that the centers were not closing CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 179 MAY 5, 2003 COMMENTS · Asked the Executive Director, Public Works to give an update on the proposed rate increases by the Orange County Sanitation District. Mr. Ross noted that there would be a public hearing on this matter at the District on May 28, 2003.
