ORDIN~MCE PROVIDING FOR THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL ~JNICIPAL
ELECTION IN THE CITY OF SAi\~A ~NA, CALIF0~IA ON THE 7th
DAY OF APRIL, 1953 FOR THE ELECTION OF CITY OFFICERS OF SAID
--CITY, GIVING NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION, DESIGNATING THE POL-
LING PLACES, THE HOURS DURL~G ~AUqICH THE POLLS SHALL BE
OPENED, THE OFFICERS TO BE ELECTED, AND APPOINT~G ELECTION
OFFICERS TO SERVE AT SAID ELECTION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITT OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That a special municipal election is hereby called
and shall be held in the City of Santa Aaa, County of Orange, State
of California, by the qualified electors of said City on the first
Tuesday in April, 1953, the same being April 7, 1953.
SECTION 2. There shall be 43 voting precincts, ~2 of which
shall be within the territorial limits of the City of Santa Ann,
consisting of the consolidation of two or more regular voting pre-
cincts last established excepting only consolidated voting pre-
cincts Numbered 4, 5, 17, 19, 20, 23, 33 and $1 which shall consist
of one regular election precinct only and one consolidated voting
precinc~ No. ~3 shall consist of that portion of the Santa Ann High
School District lying outside the corporate limits of the City of
Santa Ann for the purpose of voting only, on the five members of
the Board of Education.
That the consolidated voting precincts and the polling places
thereof, shall be as set out on that certain document headed "NOTICE
OF ELECTION" attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference
and the City Cler~ shall publish said "NOTICE OF ELECTION" as pro-
vided for in Section 5 hereof. Said "NOTIC~ OF ELECTION" shall be
published as a separate document and not as a part of this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. That it is hereby determined that the precinct
board of each precinct shall consist of one inspector, one judge, and
two clerks. That election boards for each of said consolidated vot-
ing precincts are hereby appointed and shall be as set omt on that
certain document headed "NOTICE OF PRECINCT POLLING PLACES AND PRE-
CINCT ELECTION OFFICERS" attached hereto and incorporated herein by
and
reference/the City Cler~ shall publish said "NOTICE OF PRECINCT
POLLING PLACES AND PRECINCT ELECTION 0FFICERS" as a separate docu-
ment and not as a part of this Ordinance by publishing the same in
the Santa Aha Register in two issues thereof prior to the First day
of April, 1953.
Precinct election officers shall receive the following com-
pensation: Inspectors, $15.00; all others $12.00 for their work as
such officers; owners of privately owned polling places shall receive
the sum of $9.00 for the use of each polling place.
SECTION ~. Said election shall be held and conducted in accord-
ance with the laws regulating municipal elections in cities of the
Sixth Class, and with the general election laws of the State of Cal-
ifornia, so far as the same may be applicable thereto. The polls

election and of the names of the offices to be
filled thereat, and briefly, a general description of the voting pre-
cincts and location of the polling places, ~nd of the time of the
opening and closing of the polls, shall be given by the City Clerk,
by one publication in the Santa Ana Register, a newspaper published
and circulated in the City of Santa Aha, not earlier than the six-
tieth or later than the thirty-first day before the date of said
election.
SECTION 6. The City Clerk shall prepare and cause to be pub-
lished, a list of the names of the nominees in alphabetical order
or in the order in which they appear on the ballot, and the respec-
tive offices for which they have been nominated, twice before the
day of said election, in the Santa %ha Register, a newspaper pub-
lished in said City of Santa ~na in the form as required by law.
SECTION 7. The City Clerk shall prepare and cause to be
printed, official ballots in the form and number as required by law,
and shall procure all other supplies necessary for the holding of

said election as required by law.
SECTION 8. That seid special election is held to elect the
officers to fill the offices for the terms as follows:
1. Five members of the City Council to be elected from the
City at large, the term of each member of the City council to begin
on ~pril 14, 1953; the three members elected to the City Council re-
ceiving the highest number of votes to hold office for a full term;
thet is, until the second Tuesday of ~pril, 1957 and the two members
nex~
receiving th~t number of votes to hold office for a short term;
that is, until the second Tuesday of ~pril, 1955.
2. Five members of the Board of Education to be elected at
large, the term of each member of the Board of Education to begin
on April 14, 1953; the three members elected to the Board of Educa-
tion receiving the highest number of votes to hold office for a full
term; that is, until the second Tuesday of ~pril, 1957 and the two
members receiving thn~he~t number of votes to hold office for a
short term; that is, until the second Tuesday of April, 1955.
SECTION 9. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and
adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published
in one issue of the Santa Ana Register, a newspaper printed, published
and circulated in the City of Santa ~na and hereby designated for
that purpose. This Ordinance shall take effect upon the date of
publication.
PASSED ~ND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at its regular meeting held on the 2nd day of i~rch, 1953.

of the City of Santa Ann; that the foregoing Ordinance was regu-
larly introduced and read to the said Council at its regular meet-
ing held on the 2nd day of March, 1953 and was at said meeting
regularly passed and adopted by said Council by the following vote,
