ANA NUNICIPAL CODE REGULATING WATER SERVICE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Sections 7400 and 7411 of Chapter 4 of Art-
icle VII of the Sa~ ta Aha Municipal Code are hereby amended to read
as follows:
"Section 7400. Connection Charges.
Applications to have water services installed shall be
made to the Department of Public Works. The City shall ~harge
a~d collect in advance for each tap and attachment made with
its system of water works as follows, to-wit: For each 3/4"
service in new subdivisions, complete, $30.00; for each 3/4"
service on paved streets, complete, $40.00; for each l" ser-
vice, complete, $50.00. For all larger sizes of service and
all fire lines, actual costs of labor, equipment, material,
and ovemhead used for the service.
All proposed and existing buildings within the City not
under the Jurisdiction of the City's Building Code shall pro-
vide a backflow preventer which shall be installed by the City
at the expense of the property owner."
"Section 7411. Fire Service.
A fire line is a water line that shall be tm ed for
automatic fire-extinguishing system. No fire llne shall be
used for any purpose other than for the extinguishment of fire.
All fire lines shall be equipped with a Detector check valve.
With the exception of the Detector check no meter shall be in-
stalled on a fire line. All necessary maintenance and repairs
of fire lines from the water main to curb shall be paid for by
owner. Upon failure to pa~ said charges, water will be shut
off until such charge is paid."
SECTION 2. That a new section to be numbered Section 7411.1 is here-
by added to Chapter 4, Article VII of the Santa Ara ~nicipal Code,
immediately following Section 7411, in words and figures as follows:
"Section 7411.1. Wet Standpipes.
Wet standpipes c~ be connected to a domestic water
line in the event that no fire line exists on the property."
SECTION 3. That a new section to be numbered Section 7421.1
is hereby added to Chapter 4, Article VII of the Santa Aha N~nicipal
Code, immediately following Section 7421, in words and figures as
follows:
"Section 7421.1. Backflow Preventers.
All preposed and existing building within the City not under
the Jurisdiction of the City,s building code shall provide a
backflow preventer in accordance with the requirements estab-
lished by Title 17, Uhapter V, Section 7583-7622 inclusive of
the California Administrative Code for cross-connections. Back-
flow preventer is a device or means to prevent backflow into
the potable water system."
SECTION 4. The Clerk of the Council shall certify to the pas-
sage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once
within 15 days after its adoption. This Ordinance shall take effect
30 days from and after the date of its adoption.
