MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION 8442 TO
CHAPTER 4 OF ARTICLE VIII TO LIMIT THE
PROJECTION OF SIGNS ON MAIN STREET
WHEREAS, by virtue of an agreement between the State of California
and the City of Santa Ana, the projection of signs over public property
has been limited on State highways; and
WHEREAS, on or about July 1, 1967, the status of Main Street in
this City as a State highway terminates and these limitations will no
longer apply nor be enforceable; and
WHEREAS, signs erected on Main Street after the termination of
Main Street as a State highway and prior to the adoption of new
City-wide regulations, may subject the owners of existing signs to
a considerable advertising disadvantage.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That an ordinance be adopted as an interim measure
to maintain existing limitations until such time as new City-wide
regulations are adopted and that Chapter 4 of Article VIII of the
Santa Ana Municipal Code be hereby amended by adding thereto a new
section to be numbered 8442 to read in words and figures as follows:
SECTION 8442. Projection over Public Property
No advertising structure, commercial sign, nor accessory
sign erected or constructed upon premises abutting Main
Street shall project over the public property constituting
the Main Street right of way except as permitted in the
following Table by the clearance of the bottom of such
sign above the level of the sidewalk or grade immediately
below:

SECTION 2: That this Ordinance shall take effect thirty days
from and after the date of its adoption.

kna at its regular meeting held on the 19th day of June, 1967.
