OF ORDINANCE NS-1066 BY EXTENDING THE
HOURS DURING W~ICH THE POLLS SHALL BE
OPEN IN THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA ON THE 6TH DAY
OF APRIL, 1971, FROM 7:00 A.M. UNTIL
8:00 P.M.
WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Charter Sections 1200 et seq.
deal with the subject of elections and said Charter adopts
by reference the Election Code of the State of California; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to said Election Code, Santa Ana
Municipal Ordinance NS-1066 was adopted by this Council on
February 1, 1971, providing in part that the election polls
were to remain open from 7:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.; and
WHEREAS, the Clerk of the Council, pursuant to authority
vested in her, contracted with the Orange County Registrar of
voters to perform certain services for the City in the conduct
of its election; and
WHEREAS, said Registrar by inadvertent error sent out
notices to the electorate of the City notifying them, among
other things, that the polls would be open from 7:00 A.M. until
8:00 P.M.; and
WHEREAS, there is insufficient time to rectify the error
and cause appropriate notices to be sent out;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That SECTION 4 of Ordinance NS-1066 is repealed
and in its place the following section is adopted:
SECTION 4: That said Election shall he held and
conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Charter
of the City of Santa Ana, the Constitution of the State of
California, and the provisions of the Elections Code of the
State of California insofar as the same may be applicable
thereto. On the day of the Election the polls shall be opened
at 7:00 A.M. and shall be kept open until 8:00 P.M., at which
time the polls shall be closed. The Clerk of the Council
shall prepare and cause to be published a NOTICE OF ELECTION
for one time; a list of names of the nominees in the order
in which they will appear on the Ballot and the respective
offices for which they are nominated once a week for two
successive weeks, at least 5 intervening days between the
dates of publication; and a notice of election officers and
polling places for one time.

SECTION 2: That the City Council does hereby declare
this measure to be necessary to preserve the public peace.
SECTION 3: That this ordinance shall take effect immed-
iately from and after the date of its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 5th day of April,1971.
