HomeMy WebLinkAboutNS-1099ORDINANCE NS-1099 AMENDING SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE S38-8 REDUCING UNINSURED MOTORISTS PROTECTION FROM $100,000/300,000 TO $15,000/30,000, AND INCREASING PROPERTY DAMAGE FROM $10,000 TO $100,000 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Section 38-8 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended to read in words and figures as follows: Sec. 38-8. Liability Insurance No person shall operate any ambulance, motor bus, or taxicab in the city unless there is in full force and effect a liability insurance policy issued by an insurance company authorized to do business in the state, for each authorized vehicle so operated, insuring the owner and driver of such vehicle against loss by reason of injury or damage which may result to persons or property from the negligent operation of such vehicle, in the amount of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for bodily injury to any one person, in the amount of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000.00) for bodily injury to more than one person which are sustained in the same accident, and one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for property damage resulting from any one accident, and providing passenger protection coverage against uninsured motor- ists with limits of liability of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00) for each person and thirty thousand dollars ($30,000.00) for each accident, and providing passenger medical reimbursement with limit of liability of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) for each person. Said insurance policy or policies, together with a statement from the company writing same that the city will be notified in writing twenty (20) days before the date of any cancellation of such policy shall be filed with the clerk of the council. A certificate show- ing such insurance to be in force may be filed, instead of the original policy. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of the Council shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and cause the same to be published in some daily newspaper printed and published in the City of Santa Ana. SECTION 3: That this Ordinance shall take effect thirty days from and after the date of its adoption, except as herein specifi- cally provided.
