AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE
CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE BOARD
OF ADMINISTRATION OF THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EM-
PLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That an amendment to the Contract between the
city Council of the City of Santa Ana and the Board of Adminis-
tration., California Public Employees' Retirement System is here-
by authorized, a copy of said amendment being attached hereto,
marked "Exhibit A", and by such reference made a part hereof
as though herein set out in full.
SECTION 2. The Mayor of the City Council is hereby autho-
rized, empowered, and directed to execute said amendment for
and on behalf of the City of Santa Ana
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect thirty (30)
days after the date of its adoption, and prior to the expira-
tion of fifteen (15) days from the passage thereof shall be
published at least once in the Register, a newspaper of general
circulation, published and circulated in the City of Santa Ana
and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force
and effect.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the tst day of
April , 1974.

All words and terms used herein which are defined in the Public Em~loy-
eec' Retirement Law =~1 have the meaning as defined therein unless
othexvrAse specifically p~ovided. "Norms_hi retirement age" shall mean
age 60 for miscellaneous members and age 50 for local safety members.
Public Agency n_ball participate in the Public Employees' Retirement
System from and after July 1~ 1~47, ,.~tng its employees as herein-
after provided, members of said System subject to all provisions of
the Public Employees' Retirement Law except such as apply only on elec-
tion of a contract~n~ agency ~nd are not provided for herein and to all
amendments to se.id Law hereafter enacted except such as by express pro-
vision thereof apply only on the election of con~aetZn~ agencies.
Employees of Public Agency in the following classes sbnll become members'
of said Retirement ~ystem except such in each such class as are excluded
by law or this a~reementt
a. Local firemen (herein referred tq, as local safety members)t
b. Local policemen (herein referred to as local safety members)!
o. Employees other than local safety members (herein referred to as
miscellaneous members).
The following employees shall be excluded from member_nb~ p in said
Retirement Syatem~
NO ADDITIONAL EXCLUSIONS.
The fraction of final compensation to be provided for each year of
credited prior end eux~ent service as a miscellaneous member shall
be that provided in Section 212~1.1~ Of mai~ Retirement Law.

The following additional provisions of the Public Employees~ Retirement
Law which apply only upon election of a cont~cting agency ~__11 apply
to the Public Agency cud its em~loyeest
a, The fraction of f~. compensation to be provided for each year of
credited prior and current service as a lo.ecl safety member ~ l
be that provided in Section 212~2.01 of the Retirement Law.
b. Section 21380-7 (providing for allowances for survivors of mem-
bers covered under the program upon death before retirement).
c. Section 21263 (providing upon death of a miseellemeous or local
safety member who retired for service or disability .for the con-
tiauation of one-half the retirement allowance to certain survivors)e
Public Aganoy shall contribute to said Retirement System as follows~
With respect to miscellaneous memberst the public agency ~b~?l
contribute the followin~ percent~.~es of monthly salaries ,aA*ned
as miscellaneous members of said System~
(1) 1.53 peroe~t until June 30, 1980 on account of the liability
for prior service benefits.
(2) 9,81 percent on account of the liability for current service
benefits.
(3) 0.69 percent on account of the liability for the 1959 s~u~vivore
program.
With respect to local safety memberst the ~ublic agency shall con-
tribute the following percentages of mon*~ y calories earned as
local safety members of said System~
(1) 2.158 pe~cent until ~une 30, 1979 on account of the liability
for prior service benefits,
(2) 21,~2 percent on 'account of 'ttle liability for current service
benefits,
(3) 0.089 percent on account of the liability for the 1959 Survivoz~ .
A reasonable amount per anuum~ as fixe~ by ~omrd to cover the costs
of s~4~ter~ng said System as ~t affects the .employees of Public ~
Agency, not including the costs of special v~luations or the period-
ical investigation and valu~tion required by law.
A reasonable amount as fixed by the ~o~rd, payable in one !~_tall-
memt as the occasions arise~ to cover costs of ~pecial valumtions
on account of employees of Public A~cnoy~ and costs of the period-
ical l~vestigation a~d valuation required by law.
