NS- ] 516 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AMENDING SECTION 9-91 OF THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE FOR A ONE-YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD FOR PEACE OFFICERS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: That Section 9-91 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is amended to read as follows: The probationary period shall be one year from the date of appointment from a reappointment or open eligible list and six (6) months from the date of appointment from a promotional eligible list; provided, however, that the probationary period shall be one year, in all cases, from the date of appointment to a position in that classification of positions in the Police Department in which an employee initially becomes or, in the regular course of employment, will become authorized to exercise the powers of a peace officer in other than a supervised training capacity. Absences totaling fifteen (15) days or more during a probationary period shall extend the probationary period the total length of time of such absences. SECTION 2: The purpose and effect of the amendment hereinabove set forth is to preserve the existing probationary period for the classification of positions in the Santa Ana Police Department currently designated as "Patrolman," regardless of whether appointments to said position are hereafter made from reappointment, open, or promotional eligible lists. the ADOPTED this 3rd day of December , 1979, by following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEN: Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, Markel, Serrato, Ward, Yamamoto NOES: COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None ATTEST: APPROVED AS TO FORM: KEITH L.
