ORDINANCE NO. NS-1902
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
AMENDING SECTION 8-556 AND ADDING
SECTIONS 8-561, 8-562, AND 8-563 THERETO
TO ADOPT THE UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE, 1985
EDITION~ WITH AMENDMENTS~ BY REFERENCE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That Section 8-556 of the Santa Ana Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 8-556. Adoption by reference.
There is adopted by the city that certain code known
as the Uniform Mechanical Code, 1985 Edition, together with the
appendices and code standards therein, and the whole thereof
save and except such portions as are deleted by the amendments
set forth in this article, of which said code not less than
three (3) copies have been and are on file in the office of the
clerk of the council of the city. The said code is adopted and
incorporated as fully as if set forth at length herein as
provided for in Section 419 of the Charter of the city, and,
subject to all amendments set forth in this article, shall be
in effect within the City Of Santa Ana from the effective date
of this section. Any provision of this article amending the
'Mechanical Code" or "Uniform Mechanical Code' shall be
construed as amending the said adopted code, 1985 Edition,
including such provisions enacted prior to the enactment of
this section and not thereafter repealed. The said adopted
code, 1985 Edition, as thus amended, together with all other
provisions of this article, shall be known as the mechanical
code of the City of Santa Ana.
SECTION 2: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding a section, to be numbered § 8-561, which said
section shall read as follows:
Sec. 8-561.
Automotive repair garage ventilation
(Section 1105(a)).
Section 1105(a) of the Uniform Mechanical Code is
amended to read as follows:
(a)
Automotive repair garage ventilation shall be
installed as per Section 1105(a) through Section
1107(j) of the Mechanical Code and as per Section
905 of the Uniform Building Code.

SECTION 3: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding a section, to be numbered S 8-562, which said
section shall read as follows:
Sec. 8-562. Gas burning appliances (Section 503(c)).
Section 503(c) of the Mechanical Code is amended to
read as follows:
(c)
Gas burning appliances - Ail appliances designed
to burn gas shall be rigidly connected to the gas
supply outlet in an approved manner with approved
materials as provided in Section 2212.
Appliances located on the exterior of the
building shall be connected to the gas piping as
provided in Section 2213(g) and (k) of this
code. Listed metal appliance connectors shall
not be used at exterior locations.
SECTION 4: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding a section, to be numbered § 8-563, which said
section shall read as follows:
Sec. 8-563. Appliance connectors (Section 2214).
Section 2214 of the Mechanical Code is amended to read
as follows:
Sec. 2214. Appliance connections shall have a
diameter not less than that of the inlet connection to
the appliance as provided by the manufacturer and each
appliance shall be rigidly connected to the gas piping
with materials as provided in Section 2212.
Appliances located on the roof or outside of the
building shall be connected to the gas piping as
provided in Section 2213(g) and (k) of this code.
Listed metal appliance connectors shall not be used at
exterior locations.
SECTION 5: If any section, subsection, sentence, clause,
phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held to
be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any court of
competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance. The City

Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby declares that it would
have adopted this ordinance and each section, subsection,
sentence, clause, phrase or portion thereof irrespective of the
fact that any one or more sections, subsections, sentence,
clauses, phrases, or portions be declared invalid or
unconstitutional.
SECTION 6: Neither the adoption of this ordinance nor the
repeal hereby of any ordinance shall in any manner affect the
prosecution for violation of ordinances, which violations were
committed prior to the effective date hereof, nor be construed
as affecting any of the provisions of such ordinance relating
to the collection of any such license or penalty or the penal
provision applicable to any violation thereof, nor to affect
the validity of any bond or cash deposit in lieu thereof,
required to be posted, filed or deposited pursuant to any
ordinance and all rights and obligations thereunder
appertaining shall continue in full force and effect.
