ORDINANCE NO. NS-2417
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA AMENDING CHAPTER 30 OF
THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING
SECTION 30-2.2 CATEGORIZING THE
STRUCTURES OF HISTORICAL AND
ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE ON THE SANTA
ANA REGISTER OF HISTORICAL PROPERTIES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF ']'HE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding a
section, to be numbered 30-2.2, which said section reads as follows:
Sec. 30-2.2 Categorization
The Historic Resources Commission shall place all buildings, landmarks or districts
on the Santa Ana Register of Historical Properties in one of the following categories
based upon the criteria for each category:
(a) Landmark Category
1. The building, landmark or district is on the National Register or
appears to be eligible to be placed on the register; or
2. The building, landmark or distdct is on the State Register or appears
to be eligible to be placed on the register; or
3. The building, landmark or district has a historic/cultural significance
to the City of Santa Ana; or
4. The building, landmark or district has a unique architectural
significance.
(b) Key Category
1. The building, landmark or district has a distinctive architectural style
and quality; or
2. The building, landmark or district is characteristic of a significant
period in the history of the City of Santa Ana; or
3. The building, landmark or district is associated with a significant
person or event in the City of Santa Ana.

(c) Contributive Category
The building, landmark or district contributes to the overall character and
history of a neighborhood or district and is a good example of pedod
architecture and has not been substantially altered.
SECTION 2: If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this
ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any
court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions of this ordinance. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby declares that
it would have adopted this ordinance and each section, subsection, sentence, clause,
phrase or portion thereof irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections,
subsections, sentences, clauses, phrases, or portions be declared invalid or
unconstitutional.
SECTION 3: Neither the adoption of this ordinance nor the repeal hereby of any
ordinance shall in any manner affect the prosecution for violation of ordinances, which
violations were committed prior to the effective date hereof, nor be construed as affecting
any of the provisions of such ordinance relating to the collection of any such license or
penalty or the penal provision applicable to any violation thereof, nor to affect the validity
of any bond or cash deposit in lieu thereof, required to be posted, filed or deposited
pursuant to any ordinance and all rights and obligations thereunder appertaining shall
continue in full force and effect.
