On motion the Oity Clerk was instructed to notify the ~di.on
Company to install incandescent street light.(1 at West
Bishop, S on Highland and 1 on Flower between Bishop and
Highland in the Hillyard Addition).
On motion of McPhee, ch~ly seconded and carried, D~. G.
H. Dobson was reappointed a member of the Board of Library
Trustees.
On motion the Street Superintendent is instructed to
oil and gravel South Sycamore St., in compliance with
petition of C.H. Harris et al, and Geo.L. Wilbur et'al,
excepting lots on each side of S~th Sycamore Just South
of Chestnut Ave., provided that petition be signed by all
p.roperty owners between both given points.
Ordinance No. 5~0 and Ordinance amending Section 1 of
Ordinance No. S42 of the City of Santa An,, changing the
fi~e limits was read for the second time and was on
motion duly passed a~d adopted by the following vote:

Resolution No.§45, a resolution of intention of the
Board of Trustees of the Oity of Santa An,, to in, rove
portion of gas~ Second St., in the City of Santa An,,
the construction thereof of cement sidewalk, and o~nt
curbs on both sides thereof, between ~he East curb line
of Grmnd Ave., and the West curb line of McOlay St., ..c-
ording to the official grade of said street, was on motie~
referred to the Oity Attorney.
The monthly report of the ~uperintendent of Streets, Cit~
~ealth Officer, Supt. of Water and Sewer., Building Inspector,
Recorder, City Treasurer, Oity Olerk and City Marshal, were
read and ordered filed.
On motion it is ordered that the City Barn be re-wired.

On motion Trustee Greenleaf was appointed a comittee
to ascertain the amount of hay needed for the 0ity Barn
and the City Clerk is instructed to advertise for bids,
the Board reserving the right to reject any or all bids.

On motion Nurseryman Young is given permission to
remove palm trees located on 0or. 6th and Olive and
Olive and Sixth.

On motion of Alderman duly seconded and carrie~ the
Oity Attorney is instructed to notify the Southern
Counties Gas Go., to appear before the Board and show
cause why they should not take out a franchise.

On motion of Alderman, duly seconded and carried
T.H. Newman was appointed assistant driver for the
Fire Department.

On motion the Clerk was instructed to draw a warrant
on the Oity Treasurer covering demandsNo.?49 to 901 in-
clusive a~d as the same are recorded in Warrant and
Demand Book No. 1, pages ll, 1~, and 15.
On motion the City Clerk is instructed to transfer
$~00 from the General ~und to the Fire Fund.
The Sewer Co~ittee reported that they had perfected
an option on a strip of land 16 feet wide on the ~ast
Side of the Willow Land Company's property, said strip
co~encing on the Ocean ~ront and extending inland
miles for the price of SJ~O0.
On motion the City Clerk is instructed to draw a warrant
for $~00 on the City Treasurer to cover cost price of
said strip and the City Engineer and Superintendent of
Water end Sewers are instructed to get a Deed from the
Willow Land Company for said strip of land, for sewer
purposes.

On motion of Greenleaf, duly seconded and carried, Frank
Gilbert was instructed as a special officer to direct
vehicles around and across the intersection of Main Street
and Fourth Street on Satu~daysbetween~the hours of 1~ M
and ? P.M., and on ~undays between the hours of 10 A.M.
and ? P.M., and for said additional labor he will be allowed
$6.00 per month extra.

motion referred to the Street Committee.
The petition of D.L. Anderson et al, to have East 10th
Street from the East side of Main Street to the West side
of French Street paved by the E10so Asphalt Company, was
on =~otion of Greenleaf, seconded by McPhee, granted.
~e petition to have Bush Street, between N~ Street
and Washington Avenue paved by the El Oeo Asphalt Company,

On motion the City ~ngineer is instructed to draft
specifications for street paving.
On motion of Alderman, seconded and carried, the Presi-
dent of the ~oard is instructed to purchase 100 feet $/4

motion of McPhee, seconded by Alderman, and carried,
accepted. The President of the Board of Trustees
and the City Clerk are instructed to sign all necessary
Deeds, Leases and Agreements on the part of the City.

On motion of Aldern~n, duly seconded and carried, the
Olerk is instructed to publish Notice of sale of Tele-
phone franchise, for ten times.
On motion of Alderman, duly seconded and carried, the
instructed to publish notice of special election,

On motion the City Clerk is instructed to notify the
Southern Oounties Gas Company to change vent at North
Main Street mud Santa Clara Avenue and have Home Tele-
phone Company change guy wires over ditch on North Main
and Buffalo Streets.

On motion the Police Committee are instructed to prepare
Resolutions on death of City Marshal George S. Wilson.
On motion it is ordered that the City Hall be closed
between the hours of E p.m. and 4 p.m. on January 18,191E,
for the purpose of allowing the City employees to attend
the funeral of George S. Wilson.

the East side of Birch Street to Roper's corner on South

On motion the Street Superintendent is ordered to oil

of absence for two weeks.

Death of George S. Wilson "Whereas, Death has taken from his sphere of usefulness
the respected City Mszshal of the City of Santa Aha,
George S. Wilson, who has for over a year performed his
onerous and important duties with conspicuous fairness and
ability, and;
Whereas, George S. Wilson as an official had ever and
always in mind the best interests of the people of the 0ity
of Santa Aha and served them with marked ability by favor-
ing at all times a conservative, economical and absolutely
honest administration of public affairs, be it
Resolved~ that we deplore his death and realize by his
taking away the City of Santa Ana has lost a most valuable
and efficient public official and we ourselves a co-laborer
whose loss will be deeply felt. Be it further
Resolved, that the Olerk of this Board be instructed to
spread this Resolution upon the official minutes of this
Board and send a copy of the same to the bereft family.
A communication from gdison J. Martin relative to fly-
traps was read and ordered filed.

expired term, created by the death of George S. Wilson.

in said Oity was on motion referred to the City Attorney.

It therefore appearing from said canvass and returns that

John Cubbon, S.iL Finley, Chas. F. Heil, John McFadden,
J.G. Quick, Herbert P. Rankin, W.C. Roberts, ~.B. Smith,
Geo. S. Smith, W.B. Tedfird and R.J. Thompson,each receiv-
ed a plurality of said votes and they and each of them
are heroby declared elected freeholders to prepare and
frame said charter for said City, upon taking the oath of
office and the Clerk is hereby instructed to notify each
of them of their election.
Mr. White a~peared before the Board and asked for $75.00
towards paying for band concerts at Birch Park.

tho Board relative to proposal to pave either Chestnut
Ave., or First St. in accordance with specifications of
State Highway Oon~ission. No action taken.

On motion of Aldernan, duly seconded and carried,
S.H. ~inley was appointed as a cormuittee to look up and
report as to the advisability of using ~ast Fourth Stree~
aa a part of the State Highway.
The Bond of Sam Jernig~n as City Marshal given by the
National Surety Company for $2§,000 was approved.
The petition of Frank L. Schmidt, et al, to have the
~anta Clara Avenue sewer extended to "C" Street was granted,
provided that the property owners pay for the sewer pipe
and the City to install the same.
On motion it is ordered that curb lines on each side of
Bush Street between First and Second Street be extended
~ feet.
Ordinance No.~41 an Ordinance amending Section S of
Ordinance No.4~ of the City of Santa Aha in relation to
width of sidewalks and roadways was on motion referred to
the City Attorney.
The proposition of straightening ~ast Chestnut Avenue
from Minnie Street to the Railroad Track was referred to
the City ~ngineer.

On motion, TTustee Alderman and Water Su~erinteudent Reid
were appointed a committee to look up the matter of placing
sink in Chamber of Comerce Rooms to process fruit.

the City Clerk is instructed to notify the State Highway
Commission in relation to the action of the Board regarding
the paving of W, ast Fourth Street.

by the following vote to-wit:

It is ordered that the Board proceed to convass
the retumns of the election held Saturday December, Seth
191~,to vote for or a~einst the adoption of a charter
for said 0ity. After the votes had been ~anvassedjthe
following Resolution was passed and adopted and ordered
spread u?on the minutes of this Board.
Resolved, by the Board of T~uStees of the City of Santa
Ana, that it satisfactorily appearing that all and singulam
the Special Municipal election held in the City of Santa
Ana,on December ~Sth 191~,was fairly conducted and held
according to law to vote for or against the proposition
"~11 the proposed Charter be adopted"Tee,Nc. It there-
fore appearing from said canvass and returns,that the
proposition "S~kll the ~oposed Charter be adopted* Yes
received 475 votesand the proposition 'Shall the proposed
Charter be adopted# No received 1797 votes,and it fuxther

be adopted"No received a majority of the votes voted at
said election, it is hereby declared that the proposed
charter for said City was not adopted at said electio$
and that not further proceedings will be taken by this
Board respecting the adoption of said proposed charter
