Ry.N.Main St. bridge In Re to Employ Engineer E.L.Mayberry In Re ~treet Light,~th & French Ayes, # The following report wu made by the committee appointed in reference to investigating the need of a new bridge on North Main St., and a bridge on North Flower St., the committee recommended that proceedings be commenced to construct a re-inforoed concrete bridge on North Main across the Santiago 0reek, said bridge to he not less than ~0 feet wide and 200 feet long with sidewalks on either side ~ feet wide, said bridge to be known as a span brdge with not more than ~ spans, and that the surface of the roadbed be ac high or hi~r than the present one. That the Pacific Electric Rwy. occupy the center of the bridge and that they be requested to use Trilby rails thereon. That the bridge be lighted with ornamental l~ghts. Also recommend that when the bridge ie constructed that the South approach be moved 60 feet to the Nor1 also reoommend~ that there be constructed a bridge on North Flower St. (formerly Nannah St.) across the Santiago Creek, eald bridge to be not lees than 25 ft. wide and 150 ft. long, this report on motion duly seconded and carried, wa~ accepted and ordered filed. On motion of Trustee MoPhee that a committee be appointed to interview the P.E.R.R. officials in reference to the proportion- ate amount the railroad would pay for u~ing North Main St.bridge wa~ carried by the following vote: Ayes,Trustees MoPhee, Greenleaf amd Maryatt, Noes, T~A~tees Tubbe and Visel. President ~isel appointing Trustees MoPhee, Greenleaf and Mary&tt as such committee. Engineer E.L.Mayberry of the firm of Mayberry and Parker, ~ngineers, wa~ before the Board and made the following offer in reference to building a bridge on North Main or.to ma~e a preliminary exaaination, to ~ake pencil designs, to estimate the coat with the undereta~ding if the bonds carried, his firm would be retained u architect to plam and supervise the building of the bridge amd to be paid 5 per cent of the cost thereof for oo~pensation. This offer was accepted on motion of Trustee Tubbs, and pa~eed by the following vote to-wit: Trustees Tubbe, Greenleaf and Vleel. Trustees McPhee amd Maryatt. The motion of Trustee Maryatt that the curbing already in- stalled at the corner of Orange Ave. and Bishop St., On the East side of street be left aa installed, and City Engineer to make notations of ~ on his records was duly seconded by Tubbs and carried. On motion of Trustee Tubbe, duly seconded and carried, the action taken Jan. 2nd, 1917, in reference to employing Engi- neer E.L.Mayberry in supervising the construction of North Main and North Flower St. bridges ia hereby rescinded. The recommendations for Engineer E.L. Mayberry received by President Visel from H.C. Phillips, Chief Engineer A.T.& S.F. Rye, C. R. Olbreg, Supt. Irrigation U.S. Indian Service, and Mulford & Dryer, Attys. of Los Angeles, all highly re- commending Engineer Mayberry, were on motion of Trustee Tubbs, duly seconded and carried ordered placed on file. The motion of Trustee MoPhee that the Bridge Committee be continued and that said committee he instructed to secure the services of & local Engineer to work in conjunction qith the City Engineer to prepare penciled sketches and get approxim&~s estimate of the cost of bridges proposed for spanning the Santiago Creek on North Main and North Flower ets., such pencil sketches and estimate to be submitted to the Board for its approval, this motion was duly seconded and carried.
