RESOLUTION NO. INITIATING PROCEEDINGS FOR THE AN-
NEXATION OF ~ERRITORY TO THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, DESIGNATING
AN APPROPRIATE NAMe. OF "VERANO AND HAZARD N. E. ANNEX" AND
GIVING NOTICE OF TIME AND PLACE OF HEARING PROTESTS THERETO
WHEREAS, at the request of property owners in the territory
hereinbelow described, a description and map of said territory
was presented to the Santa Aha Planning Commission and said Com-
mission has approved the annexation of said territory and the
Boundary Commission of Orange County has approved said description
as being reasonably definite and certain;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Santa Aha hereby initiates proceedings for the annexation
of the real property herein described to said City for the follow-
ing reasons:
1. That the area can best be served by the City of Santa Aha
with municipal services of the highest caliber anywhere obtainable.
2. That said territory would receive the greatest economic
benefit by becoming a part of the City of Santa Ans.
BE IT F~HTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council hereby declares
its intention to annex all of the territory hereinbelow described
under the provisions of the Annexation of Uninhabited Territory Act
of 1939 and hereby finds and declares that said territory is unin-
habited within the meaning of Government Code Section 35303 on the
date of the adoption of this Resolution; that said territory is
contiguous to the City of Santa Aha, lies in the County of Orange,
State of California and is described as:
B~eginning at the intersection of the West line of Verano Street,
(60.00 feet wide), and the Westerly extension of the North line
of the Southwest one-quarter of the Southwest one-quarter of
the Northwest one-quarter of Section 9, Township 5 South, Range
10 West, San Bernardino Base and Meridian; said point of begin-
ning being an a~ugle point in the City boundary of the City of
Santa Ana, California; and running thence Easterly along said
City boundary and along said North line and its Westerly exten-
sion to the ~est line of the East one-half of the Southwest one-
quarter of the Southwest one-quarter of the Northwest one-quar-
ter of said Section 9 and to an angle point in said City boun-
dary; thence Southerly along said City boundary and along said
West line and its Southerly extension to a line parallel with
and 30.00 feet Southerly, measured at right angles from the
center line of Hazard Avenue and to an angle point in said City
boundary; thence Westerly along said parallel line and along
said City boundary to the West line of Ver~no Street (60.00
feet wide), and to an angle point in maid City boundary; thence
Northerly along said West line of Verano Str®et and along said
City boulxdary 10.OO feet to an angle point in maid City bouml-
dary; thence Northerly departing from said City boundary along
a line parallel with and 30.00 feet Westerly measured at right
angles from the center line of said Verano Street to the Wester-
ly extension of the North line of the Southwest one-quarter of
the Southwest one-quarter of the Northwest one-quarter of said
Section 9, and to the point of beginning.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That "VERAN0 AND HAZARD N. E. ANNEX"
is hereby designated as an appropriate name for said territory for
the purpose of this annexation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: That
July 6, 1959 at the hour of 7:30 P. M. in the Council Chambers,
City Hall, Third and Main Streets, Santa Aha, California, is the
time and place fixed at which said Council will hear protests against
this annexation made by any person owning real property within said
territory. At any time before said hour any owner of said terri-
tory may file written protest against this proposed annexation.
Such protest must state the owner's name and the description and
area of the property owned by him in general terms.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at its regular meeting held on the 18th~8~f~May, 1959. ~
