HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-118RESOLUTION 64-118 ORDERING AND CALLING A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOV~4BER 3RD, 1964, TO SUBMIT TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA THE QUESTION RAISED BY REFERENDUM PETITION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT ORDINANCE NS-729 SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE WHEREAS, the Santa Ana City Council adopted Ordinance NS-729 on June 15th, 1964, and on July 14, 1964, a Referendum Petition signed by more than 1~ of the registered electors of the City was filed with the Clerk of the Council requiring said City Council to entirely repeal said Ordinance or submit the same to the voters at a regular or special election; and WHEREAS, said Ordinance may not become effective until a majority of the voters voting on the Ordinance vote in favor of it. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council hereby calls a special election to be held on November 3rd, 1964, for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the City of Santa Ana, California, a proposition to determine whether or not said voters desire Ordinance NS-729, against which a proper referendum petition has been filed, to become effective. If a majority of the voters voting on said Ordinance vote in favor of it, that is, stamp an X in the box next to the word "Yes" on said proposition, then said Ordinance shall go into effect, and unless a majority of such voters so vote said Ordinance shall not become effective. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the proposition to be upon the ballot for presentation to said electors shall be and figures as follows: placed in words Shall Ordinance NS-729 changing territory : : therein described from the R-1 (Single : YES : Family Residence District) to the R-4 : : (Suburban Apartment District) be adopted : : to become effective in the City of : NO : Santa Aha? : : The Clerk of the Council is directed to cause copies of said Ordinance to be printed and mailed with the sample ballots to the voters of the City; to publish notice inviting arguments against said proposition; to publish a notice of "Measures to be Voted On"; and to do all things regarding said election in accordance with the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California and the Charter of the City of Santa Ana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange be and it is hereby requested to grant permission for, and to order, consolidation of the Special Election to be called and held in the City of Santa Aha on November 3, 1964, with the State-wide General Election to be held on said date. Said Board of Supervisors is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said Special Election which it is hereby requested to consolidate with said State-wide General Election and said elections shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That said Board of Supervisors is authorized to form the precincts within the City of Santa Ana, to fix the polling places, appoint the precinct boards and provide for the expenses of said election; that the election officers serving at said consolidated election shall receive as compensation for their services, the sum fixed by said Board of Supervisors; that the polls shall be open between the hours of 7 o'clock A.M. and 8 o'clock P.M.; that the voting precincts, polling places and election boards shall be those named and established by said Board of Supervisors for the State-wide General Election to be held November 3, 1964.
