HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-152RE~OLUTI~N 6~-152 ADDING SECTION 3.2 TO RESOLUTION NO. 58-281 W~AS, on November 3, 1958, the City Council passed and adopted Resolution No. ~84281 revisimg a~d reestablishing the Basic C~mpensati~m Plan for employees of the City of Santa Ama; ,n~ W~, it is desired to a~d a new sub-section to provide for a special designation as Senior Police Officer; NOW, Ts,~u~FORE, BE IT RE~OLV~: That Section 3 of Resolution No. 58-281 is hereby amended to include a new section to be designated Section 3.2 amd to read as follows: Section 3.2: Au~ Patrolm-n who attains the special e~ucational aha experience requirements as set forth in this section~ who is approved by the Chief of Police as described herein and who maintains an over-all rating of above average on the "Periodic Report on Job Performance" as processed and filed in the Personnel Department shall be desisaated as a Senior Police Officer. He shall wear upon his uniform the special insignia pertaining to this status and shall be paid at the monthly rate of one full step higher than his rewalar Patrolman rate. This additional compensation shall apply only to a Police Department employee in the classification of Patrolm~u, and if such employee is assigned to duties on a motor cycle, as an Investigator or any assi~ment which carries provision for extra pay as provided in this Resolution, the extra pay designated as accorded to a Senior Police Officer shall be discontinued for the perio~ of such assignment. The requirements for designation as a Senior Police Officer shall be as follows: ~DUCATION Possession of an Associate of Arts degree with specialization in Police Scieuce, or Junior class (or higher) status in the Police Science curriculum of a college or university which offers a degree in Police Science or Police A~m~nistration. The educational work shall include the successful completion of at least 20 semester units in the Police Science field including at least one course in each of the following areas: Cr~m~--i Law~ Cr~m~ual Evidence~ Crtm~-i Procedures, Crime Investigation, Patrol Procedures, Traffic Control, Juvenile Control and Vice Control. A gra~e point average of 2.5 (using a ~ point scale) must be achieved in at least 20 units in the Police Science field. C. The educational work shall include the completion of at least 6 semester units in the field of English and/or Speech. D. Completion of the departmental crime scene investigation training course. A. Completion of at least four years as a sworn Police Officer. Status on meritorious Step E in the City of Santa Aha Salary and Wage Schedule. At least 2 full years of work experience in the ~/TiC ~ivision or Investigation Section of the Santa Ana Police Department~ at least 1 full year of which shall have been in assigmment to the investigation of crime or accident cases~ with demonstrated proficiency in the collection and prese=w=tion of evidence and the processing of crime and/or accident incidents. APPROVAL PROC~2)URE Whenever an officer believes he has met the requirements and standards, he shall sub~it verifying transcripts and records to the office of the Chief of Police. If the requirements and standards for education and experience as described herein have in fact been met, an~ if the Chief of Police shall determine such employee to be worthy of designation as a Senior Police Officer, he shall so notify the applying officer and shall file notice of such determination with the Persor~el Office of the City.
