HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-180RESOLUTION 64-180 COMMENDING FATHER DONAT,D MONTROSE FOR THE OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP HE HAS GIVEN TO MATER DEI HIGH SCHOOL DURING THE PAST FIFTEEN YEARS WHEREAS, in September, 1950, Mater Dei High School opened to receive its first students in the City of Santa Ana, California, and having increasingly contributed to the education of young people in Orange County, and since from that first day to the first of July, 1964, Father Donald Montrose has been an ever present and significant factor in its direction, and an influence on the students, being the first athletic director and later also becoming vice principal; never being too deeply involved with administration to lose contact with the students as individuals; and WHEREAS, his proficiency in Spanish and love of the language has, in a fashion uniquely his own, motivated a love of learning in Spanish-American children; and having been selected in 1964 to visit Santa Ana, E1 Salvador as a part of the People to People Program; and his students having dedicated this fall's athletic program to him; and WHEREAS, he possessed the imagination, the humbleness, and the many other qualities necessary to have a fellowship on a common level with high school students; and WHEREAS, on January 1, 1964 Father Montrose left the City of Santa Ana to assume the position of Superintendent of Schools for this Archdiocese; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA that they wish him every success and inspiration in his new position, and they extend to him an advance welcome from his many friends of all denominations upon each return to this City. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 16th day of November, 1964.
