HomeMy WebLinkAbout65-051RESOLUTION 65-51 REQUESTING THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS TO PROVIDE AN OVERCROSSING FOR ALTON AVENUE OVER THE NEWPORT FREEWAY WHEREAS, construction of the Newport Freeway has restricted the east-west movement of traffic in the southeast Santa Ana industrial area except at Warner Avenue, Dyer Road, and MacArthur Boulevard where grade separations are being provided; and WHEREAS, the County of Orange has in its Master Plan of Arterial Highways Alton Avenue from Newport Boulevard to the east; and WHEREAS, as a part of its circulation element of the General Plan Program the City of Santa Ana has conducted traffic studies in the area between Dyer Road and MacArthur Boulevard, which studies indicate an average daily traffic on Alton Avenue, between Main Street and Red_hill Avenue, of between 10,000 and 15,000 vehicles in 1980; and WHEREAS, traffic volume of this magnitude indicates a necessity for the construction of an overcrossing at the Newport Freeway for Alton Avenue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Ana, California, requests that the State of California Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, provide an over- crossing for Alton Avenue over the Newport Freeway, and directs that copies of this Resolution be sent to the legislators representing Santa Ana in the State Capitol and to the Headquarters and District offices of the Division of Highways.
