Present: Trustees Absent: Trustees William Jerome, J.L.McBride, Orson H. Hunter, Cou~tney R. Chandler. Milford W. Dahl Each member of the City Council having received copies of ~he Minutes of July ?th, 1952, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Hunter and carried. # In Re Annexation No. Main St. John W. Prentiss (hearing date) etal This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the of certain uninhabited te~itory, being a psmcel of land extending along the east line of Main Street 150 feet north of the north City limit line and extending 155.25 ft. east of the east line of Main In Re Award of bid City advertising Street, and no protests having been received, on motion of T~ustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to prepare the Ordinance for annexation. # The report of the committee was read recommending that bid No. 2 of the Register Publishing Company be accepted as the lowest bid. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, .$he recommendation of the committee was approved and bid No. 2 of the In Re Request Street lights (Alfred T.Tucker) Register Publishing Company accepted for publication of legal advertising. Communication was read from Alfred T. Tucker requesting that stree~ lights be installed at Spurgeon and East Buffalo Streets and at the east end of Buffalo Street at the edge of Hoover Street school g~ounds. On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the ~equest was referred to the City Engineer with power to In Re Resol. No. 52-60 Accept easement deed (M~tro.Life Ins.Co.) Dahl On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, following Resolution entitled: "Resolution approving agreement" the dated July 15th, 1952 from H.J. and Clara M. Gerken covering removal of all portions of buildings and other obstructions on property located on the northwest corner of 17th Street and Bush Street, was read, considered, designated Resolution No. 52-63 and passed by the following vote: In Re Reports Ayes, Trustees William Jerome, J.L.McBride, Orson H. Martin, Jr. commending the Council ~or their cooperation and support in connection with the Sixth Annual All Woman Transcontinental Air Race, and on motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication was received and In Re 0ommunication League of Calif. No.92 ~Planning Commission (fences around Junk yards, etc.) Communication was read from Secretary, Santa Ana City Schools stating that an easement for a sewer line exists along the extension of Woodland Avenue across the Washington Elementary School grounds and the use of this sewer line has been abandoned by the City. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Jerome and carried, the matter was referred to the City Attorney to prepare necessary proceedings. # Communication was read from the City Engineer, together with letter from Emmet C. Rogers protesting payment, in t~he sum of $600.00, for sewer main on Bristol Street which lies on the west side of proposed Tract No. 1572. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communications were received and filed. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the request of Ernest J. Elias, on behalf of the "Taunters Club", for permission to conduct a public dance at the American Legion Hall on July 25th, 1952, was granted. Communication was read from T.L.Moreland requesting that the Council urge the State Highway Division to provide a pedestrian crossing under the Freeway overpass on Grand Avenue, and on motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried, the matter was referred to the City Engineer for action. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried, the request of Charles E. Rees, 701 W. 1st Street for a limited parking zone, was referred to the Administrator, City Engineer and Chief of Police. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Hunter and carried, the notifications of the State Board of Equalization of alcoholic beverage applications made by Harvey E. Davis, 1025 W. bth St., and. Esther O. Winters, 800 E. Washington Avenue, were received and filed. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the applications of William M. Thomson to drive busses and Mamgaret A. Lopez to d=ive taxicabs, were received, filed and permits g~ante~e On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Hunter and carried, proper officials were authorized to execute agreement dated July 21st, 1952, between the City and James L. Carney covering the construction of an electric sign at 602 South Main Street, which sign will extend over and upon the five-foot set-back line. . On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Jerome and carried, proper official was authorized to sign escrow instructions from Fred and Ida Vollmer, for the widening of South Main Street. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Hunter and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance granted to the Santa Aha Building and Loan Association to permit a parking lot at l$17 North Sycamore Street, subject to certain conditions. On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, Planning Commission Initiated Amendment Application No. 92 recommending that th, Zoning Ordinance be amended requiring fences around Junk yards, wrecki] 232 yards and other similar yards, was referred to the Planning Commission with instructions to contact the Building Inspector as to conflict In Re Communication Plann. Communication was read from ~he Planning Commission recommending that the Council urge the Board of Supervisors and the Orange County Flood Control District Board to make a thorough study of flood control problems in connection with Santiago Creek. On motion of Trustee In Re Warrants In Re Warrants (6.-30-5Z) McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication was received, filed and taken under consideration. # On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Hunter and carried, the demands as audited by the Finance Committee were approved and Clerk authorized to issue warrants covering demands. # On motion of T~ustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried, the demands, dated June 30, 1952, as audited by the Finance Committee, In Re Purchase parking meters covering inter-departmental charges, were approved and Clerk author- ized to issue warrants covering demands. # On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Hunter and carried, the Purchasing Agent was authorized to purchase twenty-eight Automaton parking meters, procured on a trial basis, at quoted price of $60.00 In Re Request L.H.Williamson (preach gospel) each plus freight and taxes. .
