Communication was read from Santa Ana Junior Chamber of Commerce pro- testing increase in rates for classified advertising in the Orange .County Telephone Directory and on motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by! Dahl and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to file a complaint immediately with the Public Utilities Comauission based on the reasons as set forth in the Sr. and Jr. Chamber of Commerce communications. Communication was read from the First National Bank requesting removal of parking meters in the first, second and third ten-minute parking stalls on the west side of Main Street immediately south of the south- west corner of Fourth and Main Streets, and that loading zones be established in the parking spaces. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Dahl and carried, the Administrator and Attorney were instructed to investigate the possibility of applying the curb usage policy and present necessary proceeding at the September 2nd meeting. Communications were read from the City of Arcadia requesting that Santa Aha file its protest witb the Public Utilities Commission reference application of the Southern Counties Gas Company for an increase in gas rates and on motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Dahl and carried, the communications were received and filed. # On motion of Trustee Jerome,.seoonded by McBride and carried, the notification of the State ~ard of Equalization of alcoholic beverage application made by Nacianceno S. Frietze, 2026 W. 5th St., was received and filed. # On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the applications of Carlin F. Brotherton and Lanny R. Armstrong to drive taxicabs, were received, filed and permits granted. # On recommendation of the Chief of Police and on motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the request of D.J.Wallace and! Tom Bell to conduct a pool hall at 805 East Fourth Street, was granted. A petition was read signed by eight residents and property owners in the 300 block Berkeley Street requesting that a street light be ins'tailed at the corner of Berkeley and Maple Streets. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the request was referred to the Administrator and Engineer with power to act. # On motion of Trustee Hun~er, seconded by Jerome and carried, proper official was authorized to sign escrow instructions from David F. and Mary H. Street. . The Clerk presented petitions containing approximately 5001 signatures requesting the Council to submit to the voters a proposition to levy and collect, in addition to all other taxes, a tax of $0.15 on each $100.00 of assessed valuation of property within the City, which tax money shall be used exclusively to construct a swimming pool and bath house in Memorial Pa~k and provide additional recreation equipment for parks in the City. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and oarried,'the Clerk was instructed to verify the validity of the signatures on the petitions. . A report was read from the City Attorney outlining committee discussio] on offer of Orange County Peace Officers Association to purchase approximately 19.65 acres of City property located east of the Santa Aha River between 17th Street and Highway 22. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, motion dated May 19, 1952 accepting offer, in the amount of $3850.00 was rescinded and Clerk instructed to notify the Association that the offer is withdrawn in view of the report submitted by the majority of the committee. . On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, a communication was ordered directed to the Isaac Walton League them of the flood control damage and requesting that they do not make any improvements, on property leased to them, that will in any way interfere with flood control and Clerk instructed to present communication to the Council at the next meeting. On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, a charge on the basis of $100.00 minimum rental fee was established until the sum of $4500.00 has been realized and all monies collected above the $4500.00 to be assessed at the rate of 15% of the gross receipts, reference request of Santa Aha College for reduction in rental fee for use of the Bowl on Sept. 13, 1952. # On motion of T~ustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the demands as audited by the Finance Committee were approved and Clerk authorized to issue warrants covering demands. # On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Hunter and carried, the bid of S. S. Zarubica, in the amount cf $27,908.30 was accepted for the construction of a storm sewer on Delhi Road from Rousselle Street to Standard Avenue, and all other bids rejected. # On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the bid of A.H.Famularo, in the sum of $108,155.00 was accepted for the construction of a storm sewer on Maple Street from McFadden to First Street and on First Street from Maple to French Street, and all other bids rejected. # 240 In Re Award of bid Const. sanitary sewer E.side P.E.Ry. Brown and Paul Vukich Jr., in the sum of $23,500.25 was accepted for the construction of a sanitary sewer along the east side of Pacific Electric Railway right-of-way from North line of Tract No. 560 to McFadden Street, and In Re Appointment Library Board In Re Special census all other bids rejected. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, Hill was appointed as a member of the City Library Board; expire June 30, 1955. ,, On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the Administrator was authorized to negotiate with the Federal Bureau of Herbert L. term to Census to conduct a special census for Santa Ana during the month of In Re Trash and garbage specifications October, 1952. . On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Hunter and carried, the Admluistrator was Instructed to nrepare specifications for bids on trash and garbage collection and sale and present same at the next meeting. . On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, the City Council adjourned to Monday, August 11, 1952, at 7.j0 P.M. in the Council Chamber.
