On motion of T~ustee Dahl,
seconded by Jerome and carried, the
recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
granted to Leah M. Brown to permit con~erting of existing building at
· lO10 North Ross Street from a duplex to a three-unit apartment build-
ing, subject to certain conditions.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
Jgranted to W.M.Jackeon etux, to permit doctors~ offices and a dental
laboratory and a reduction in front yard requirement so as to alIo~ a
minimum front yard depth of 12 feet on lot at 1502 North Sycamore
Street, subject to certain conditions.

On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Dahl and carried,
the
recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
granted to S.H.Finley Company to permit waiving of ~eam yard require-
ment on property known as the east 75 ft. of the north 20 ft. of Lot
and the east 75 feet of lots 7 and 10, all in Block 9 of the Town of
Santa Ana, 1ocated at 206 E. 4th St.

Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending
approval of Tentative Map cf Tract No. 1434, submitted by W.K.LindBay,~
showing a tier of lots on both sides of a 750 foot westerly extension
of Sharon Road, and on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and
carried, the recommendation of the Plannin~ Commission was accepted
and Tentative Map of Tract No. 1434 approved subject to conditions as
outlined by the Planning Commission.
Communication was mead from, the Planning Commission recommending
approval of Tentative Nap of Tract No.'1705, submitted by A.F.Seh~eder,
.proposing a tier of lots on both sides of a westerly extension of Rivem
Lane from T~act No. 1357 to a llne approximately 38? feet westerly
thereof. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried,
the recommendation of the Planning Commission was accepted and
Tentative Map of Tract No. 1705 approved, subject to conditions as
outlined by the Planning Commission.

Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending
approval of Tentative Map of Tract No. 1685, submitted by Barkley
Square, Inc. covering land between English and King Streets with a
tier of lots on both sides of 12th Street, llth Street from English
to King Street and also on the north side of 10th Street from English
to Hawley Street. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride
and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was accept-il
ed and Tentative Map of Tract 1685 approved subject to conditions as
outlined by the Planning Commission and that the final Map of Tract
No. 1685 shall be approved subject to the City Engineer's approval of
drainage at the west end of lOth Street. On motion of Trustee Hunter,

Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending
approval of Tentative Map of Tract No. 13~1, submitted by Sunshine
~ardens Homes, covering land between Hawley and English Streets and
extending north from West 5th Street approximately 600 feet. On
motion of Trustee Ds/al, seconded by Hunter and carried, the recommend-
ation of the Planning Commission was ~accepted and Tentative Map of
Tract No. 1341 approved, subject to conditions as set forth by the
Planning Commission.

Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending that
the.origina! Tentative Map of Tract No. 1676, submitted by Paul B.
Wltmer, be disapproved covering land in both city and county territor
along extensions of Halladay and Hickory Street south of McFadden
Street as the Revised Tentative Map bearing the same number and cover
lng only a portion of the land shown om the original map, but all
within the City, was recently recommended by the Commission'and
approved by the Council. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by.

the Council furnish the Planning Commission with a technician to
handle routine work of the office, furnish a special consultant to

Minutes of the Executive Committee of the Joint Outfall Sewer held
at Anaheim, November 6, 1952, were received and filed. ~

On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried, the
request of Emll W. Foust, 2240 South Main Street, for permission to
widen the driveway on South Broadway by removing the portion of the
curbing, at his own expense, was referred to the Administrator,
Engineer and Chief of Police, for report at the next meeting.
On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
notifications of the State Board of Equalization of alcoholic beverag(
applications made by George L. Taney, 222 Spurgeon St., Julia G.
Islas and Henry B. Ortega, 316 E. 4th Street, and Takeo Takekoshi, Adm.
1657 E. 1st St., were received'and filed.

A petition was read'signed by nine residents and property owners
requesting that action be taken to subdue the dust emanating from the
Dimension Mill & cabinet Col, 913 E. 4th Street and on motion of
Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried, the request was
referred to the Chief Building Inspector for investigation and
report.
0ommunication was read from Department of Commerce, BUreau of Census,
advising that according to the returns Of,the Special'Census, taken
as 0f'October 23, 1952, the po~ulation of the City of Santa Aha, was'
52,355, and on motion Gf Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried,
the communication was received and filed.
On motion of Trustee Jeromd, seconded by McBride and carried, the
application of Buckley B. Wilson to drive taxicabs, was received and
permit granted.

Communication was read from Orange County Roofing Company submitting
breakdown on the roofing Job on the Community Center Building and on
motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
Purchasing Agent was authorized to draw a warrant in the amount of
$124.18 covering labor and materials furnished.

On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the
recommendation of the City Engineer that a street light be i~stalled
at Sixth and Terminal Streets, was referred to the Administrator and
City Engineer with power to act.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, proper
officials were authorized to execute agreement dated December l, 1952,~
between the City and Harold H. Grimes to complete all the work
embodied in the furnishing and installing of conduit and appurtenanoel
for the Fire Alarm System.

On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, proper
officials were authorized to execute agreement dated November 17,
1952, between the Chamber of Commerce and the City, covering the
placing of appropriate decorations stimulating the Christmas trade,
for the sum of $1500.00, for the months of November and December.

On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the demands
as audited by the Finance Committee were approved and Clerk authorized
to issue warrants for same.

On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Dahl,
seconded by Hunter and carried, action on the request of Nfs. Robert
Weiland that a crossing guard be placed at Bristol Street to protect
the children who attend the Glenn-L. Nartin school, was deferred until
a later date.

On motion of T~ustee Hunter~ seconded'by NcBride and carried, the
petition signed by 94 property owners ~equesting that a footbridge be
erected, constructed and maintained for Bchool children over Santiago
Creek from the west end of River Lane to the north end of Baker Street
was referred to the City Engineer for investigation for alternate
plans and to employ a consultant if necessary.

On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Hunter,
seconded by McBride and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to
prepare an amendment to the Nunicipal Code to permit the Chief of
PoliCe to install temporary stop signs at Ross and Camile and at
Patton and Camile,'referenee request of the Principal of the Senior
High'School.

The Clerk read the report of the City Attorney reference claim of the
Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company for damage to 6 feet of their
'single tile duct and $00-pair, 2~-gauge alpeth cable, on the south
side of l?th Street, about 200 feet west of Santiago Avenue, in the
estimated sum of $250.00, and on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by
Jerome and carried, the report was received and filed.
On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Dahl,
seconded by Jerome and carried, the request of Arthur E. Curran that
stop signs be placed at the intersections of Cypress and Cubbon
Streets and Orange and Cubbon Streets was denied and the
instructed to advise Ma-, Curran of Council action and reasons for the
denial of request.

The Administrator reported on the request of members of the Fire
Department for a reduction of working hours per week and additional
man power required for such reduction. On motion of Trustee Dahl,
seconded by Jerome and carried, the recommendation of the Admini~
and Fire Chief was approved and members of the Fire Department were
placed on a 67-plus hour work week effective at such time as it is
practical.
