NOW, THEREFORE, after study and consideration, it is hereby resolved that the City Council of the City of Santa Ana, California, hereby declares its approval of the acquisition of The Western Pacific Railroad Company by the Santa Fe Railway Company, and urges the Inter- state Commerce Commission to officially approve such acquisition either by merger of said two Companies or by purchase of a majority of Western Pacific stock by the Santa Fe Railway Company. This Council further expresses its opposition to the control of Western Pacific by the Southern Pacific Company by whatever means the same might be effected. This Council recognizes the need for merger of various railway companies to maintain the economic health of the American railway -1- system, but believes this vast and rapidly growing area can well support competing lines.
