Clerk's Statement
This being the date to canvass voters ballots and it satisfactorily
aPpears to the City Council of the City of Santa Ana that notice of
the Special Municipal Election was duly and legally given as being
held April 7, 1953, according to law. On motion of Trustee Hunter,
seconded by Jerome and carried, the Clerk was ordered to proceed with
the canvassing of the ballots and the absentee ballots. There were
forty-three voting precincts established for the purpose of holding
said Election, consisting of a consolidation of the regular election
precincts established for holding the last general State and County
elections. The Council finds that as a result of said election the
whole number of votes cast was 7,155 and that the following persons
were voted for with the following results and totals,

Courtney R. Chandler received 5481 votes.
Milford W-. Dahl received 4902 'votes.
William Jerome received 515? votes.
John L. McBride received 4551 vo~es.
Charles Hindley received 1517 votes
Paul H. Johnson received 1537 votesl
Thomas F. Lateen received 3926 votes.
Newell A. Lucas received 1355 votes.
BYrOn F. Quivey received 1888 votes.

The Clerk administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to
Courtney R. Chandler, Milford W. Dahl and William Jerome, duly elected
as members of the City Council for the ensuing term of four years, and
to John L. McBride and Thomas F. Larsen, duly elected as members of
the City Council for the ensuing term of two years. Meeting called
to order by the Clerk.
A motion was made by Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride that
R. Chandler be nominated as Mayor of the City of Santa Aha.
was made bY Trustee McBride that the nomination be closed.
carried. Courtney R. Chandler assumed the office of Mayor of the
City of Santa Ana.
A motion was made by Trustee Jerome, Seconded by Larsen that Milford )
W. D~hl be nominated as Vice-Mayor of the City of Santa Ana. Motion
was carried.

It was moved by Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, that
Ellis Diehl be designated as the person to make an independent audit
of the accounts and other evidence of financial transactions of the
City for the fiscal year April 14th through June 30th, 1953.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the follow-
ing Ordinance entitled:
"Ordinance appropriating funds for fiscal
year starting April 14, 1953 and ending
June 30, 1953"
was read, considered, designated Ordinance No. NS-1 and passed by the
following vote:

Ana declaring that no City Prosecutor is charged
with the duty of prosecuting misdemeanor offenses
resulting from violation of State Statutes and
requesting the District Attorney of Orange County
to provide for prosecution of such offenses"

J.L. McBride be appointed as the representative of the City of Santa
Ana on the Beard of Directors of Orange County Sanitation District
No. I in addition to the Mayor.

Milford W. Dahl be appointed as alternate to the Mayor of the City of
Santa Aha on the Board of Directors of Orange County SanlSa~ion Distrie'
It Was moved by Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, that
J.L.McBride be appointed as alternate to the Mayor of the City of Santa
Aha on ~he Board of Directors of Orange County Sanitation District
No. 7.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, in conform-
ante with Section 104 of the Charter of the City of Santa Aha, all
members of presently existing boards and commissions and all officers
and employees of the City are hereby empowered and directed to continue
in the performance of their duties and responsibilities as established,
by statutes, ordinances, resolutions and regulations in force
immediately prior to the effective date and hour of the City Charter,
until such time as discontinuance or change of such duties and
responsibilities shall be made in accordance with the requirements of
the Charter.
