HomeMy WebLinkAbout60-165RESOLUTION NO. 60-165 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, URGING ALL QUALIFIED
PERSONS TO REGISTER AS VOTERS FOR THE GENERAL STATE-
WIDE AND PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 8,
1960
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Aha unquali-
fiedly believes and earnestly urges that all eligible persons should
be registered as electors that they may vote on November 8, 1960.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That all citizens who will
have reached the age of twenty-one years on or before September 15,
1960, or who did not vote in 1958, or who have recently moved within
the State, or who have moved into the State of California within the
past year are hereby called upon to seek out a place of registration
of voters and to register their qualifications as voters between now
and September 15, 1960, the date of closing registration; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Santa Ana citizens who have
moved into this State since September 15, 1959, are called upon to
go personally to the County Clerk's Division of Voters Registration
of Orange County, at 319 West Fifth Street in Santa Ana, California,
and there register to be permitted to vote in the coming Election on
the question of selecting Presidential Electors and to so have a voice
in the selection of the Chief Executive of our nation. The public is
informed that new Amendments allow citizens of the United States over
twenty-one years of age, who have been residents of California for
less than one year on September 15, 1960, to make special registration
to vote for Presidential Electors, and it appears to said Council
that this information has not been widely disseminated among our new
resident citizens and should be called to their attention.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That all persons not presently regis-
tered should so qualify themselves without delay, should study the
candidates, their political philosophies, the reasonableness and
desirability of their campaign statements and pledges, and should
then on Election Day go to the polls and vote as their judgment may
then dictate.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED= That the right to vote in a democratic
way under our republican form of government is a privilege not fully
appreciated nor adequately exercised by many of our people, a privi-
lege only universally understood in the areas of the world which were
once free countries and have now been conquered by the imperialistic
fascist powers and taken behind the iron curtain or the bamboo curtain.
The right to vote in free elections should not be a right that is
universally appreciated only after it is lost.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Aha
