HomeMy WebLinkAbout66-044RESOLUTION 66-44 OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO AMEND THE PROVISIONS OF THE EDUCATION CODE REGARDING LIBRARIES WHEREAS, in 1963 major changes in the provisions regulating libraries were made by amendments thereto so that today we have provisions which are the result of joint study and approval of nearly all interested groups; and WHEREAS, new proposals to further amend these provisions regulating libraries and State aid to libraries which would greatly and unnecessarily increase the allocation of State tax revenue to libraries under the new formulas, which this Council does not approve, would, if adopted, render a dlsaervice to the communities of the State and spend vast sums of money which are unnecessary at a time when the State budget is growing at an unprecedented and unsupportable rate. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha hereby declares its complete opposition to the proposed changes of the Education Code regarding libraries now pending before the 1966 Special Session of the California Legislature and urges its representatives and all other legislators:to actively oppose and to vote against any proposed change in the library legislation.
