EASEMENTS FOR STREET PURPOSES FOR THE WIDENING
OF EIGHTH STREET FROM FAIRVIEW STREET TO 560 FEET
WEST OF BRISTOL STREET
WHEREAS, the rapid expansion of the Civic Center area of the
City of Santa Ana and the continuing increase in east-west traffic
volume has made it necessary to widen Eighth Street to provide for
the present and prospective demands of said increasing traffic;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana does hereby find and determine that the public
interest and necessity require that Eighth Street be widened on the
north and south sides from Fairview Street to a point 560 feet west
of Bristol Street and does require that said City do have and acquire
easementf for street purposes in, over, through, and across certain
real property in the City of Santa Ana, County of Orange, State of
California, said easements being described as follows:
~ARCEL 1:
An easement for street purposes over the Northerly 15.00
feet of the Southerly 40.00 feet of the West 55.00 feet
of the East 355.00 feet of the South 200.00 feet of the
following:
Beginning at an iron pin 517.20 feet West of old corner stake,
an iron pin in the center of Eighth Street (formerly Hickey
Street) and Hawley Street; thence North 850.26 feet to iron
pin; thence West 277.00 feet to iron pin at grant line in
the center of King Street; thence South 27½° West 948.30
feet to iron pin in the center of Eighth Street (formerly
Hickey Street); thence 711.80 feet to the point of
beginning.

An easement for street purposes over the Northerly 15.00
feet of the Southerly 40.00 feet of the West 76.00 feet of
the East 180.00 feet of the South 200.00 feet of that
portion of the land allotted to Jacob Ross in decree of
partition of the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, recorded
in Book A of Judgments of the 17th Judicial District Court
of Los Angeles County, California, described as follows:
Beginning at an iron pin 517.20 feet West of the old corner
stake and iron pin at the center line intersection of Eighth
Street (formerly Hickey Street) and Hawley Street; thence
North 850.26 feet to an iron pin; thence West 277.00 feet
to an iron pin on the grant line and center line of King
Street; thence South 27° 30' 00" West 948.03 feet to an
iron pin at its intersection with the said center line of
Eighth Street; thence East 711.08 feet to the point of
beginning.

An Easement for street purposes over the North 15.00 feet
of the South 40.00 feet of the West 52.00 feet of the East
104.00 feet of the South 200.00 feet of that portion of
land allotted to Jacob Ross in decree of partition of the
Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, recorded in Book B of
Judgmentsjof the 17th Judicial District Court of Los Angeles
County, California, described as follows:
Beginning at an iron pin 517.20 feet W~st of an old corner
sta~e and iron pin in the center of Eighth Street (formerly
Hickey Street) and Hawley Street; thence North 850.26 feet
to an iron pin; thence West 277.00 feet to an iron pin on
the Grant line in the center of King Street; thence South

South parallel with Hawley Street, 150.00 feet to the

EXCEPTING THEREFROM the Easterly 90.00 feet thereof.

ALSO EXCEPTING from said 40.00 feet, any portion previously

of the West half of that portion of the Jacob Ross Allottment
in the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, described as follows:
Beginning at a point in the Westerly extension of the center
line of Hickey Street (now known as Eighth Street) 220.00
feet West of the intersection of the center lines of Hlckey
Street and Hawley Street; thence North parallel to the
center line of Hawley Street, 150.00 feet; thence West
parallel with the extended center line of Hickey Street,
180.00 feet; thence South parallel with Hawley Street,
150.00 feet to the extended center line of Hickey Street;

page 497, of Official Records; thence westerly along the
center line of West Eighth Street, 200-1/3 feet, more or
less, to a point which is distant thereon 220 feet Easterly

California bounded Easterly by the Easterly line of said
Lot 10 and bounded Southwesterly by the arc of a curve
concave Southwesterly, having a radius of 25 feet and
tangent to said Northerly and Easterly boundaries.

on the North by the Southerly line of
Parcel 1, bounded on the West by the West
line of said Lot 42, and bounded South-
easterly by the arc of a curve concave
Southeasterly, having a radius of 25.00 feet
and tangent to said North and West boundaries.
An easement for street purposes over the North 15.00 feet
of the following described land:
Lot 6 in Block "A" of Horace J. Pullen's Fifth Street
Tract, as shown on a map thereof recorded in Book 4,
Page 81 of Miscellaneous Maps, records of said Orange
County, together with the North one-half of the alley
adjoining said land on the South, as abandoned by
Resolution No. 3788 of the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana, a certified copy of said Resolution was
recorded June 10, 1949, in Book 1857, Page 20 of Official
Records.
An easement for street purposes over that portion of the
land allotted to Julian Chavez as described in the Final
Decree of Partition of the Rancho Santiago de Santa Aha,
which was entered September 12, 1868 in Book "B", page 410
of Judgments of the District Court of the 17th Judicial
District in and for Los Angeles County, California,
described as follows:

Beginning at the intersection of the center
line of Eighth Street (formerly Hickey
Street) with the Easterly line of Raitt
Street (formerly Artesia Street); thence
Easterly along said center line of Eighth
Street 300.00 feet to the intersection

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Attorney is hereby
ordered to bring an action in the name of the City of Santa Aha to
condemn said property necessary to be taken and to do all things
necessary to prosecute said action to final determination;
That the City of Santa Ana, a municipal corporation, is
authorized and empowered to provide for the opening, extension,
widening, construction, and maintenance of public streets and highways
within the City;
That said public improvement is planned and located in a manner
which will be most compatible with the greatest public good and the
least private injury;
That the public interest, necessity, and convenience require,
and it is hereby ordered, that said City take immediate possession
and use of the property herein ordered to be acquired upon compliance
with the requirements of law applicable thereto as rights of way for
public street;
That said action in condemnation shall be taken in accordance
with the provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure and the Constitution
of the State of California relating to eminent domain.
