VISORS OF ORANGE COUNTY SEEKING THE ESTABLISHMENT
OF A NAVAL FACILITY AT LOS ALAMITOS
WHEREAS, our nation is confronted with serious Soviet
challenge to its naval superiority as a result of the massive
efforts being made by Russia to develop the world's largest and
most advanced undersea fleet; and
WHEREAS, an undersea warfare center has been proposed by the
Department of the Navy as a means of countering this threat by
increasing the strength and effectiveness of our nation's undersea
forces through the integration of the Navy's analytical, scientific,
and engineering capabilities in a single center with responsibility
in major warfare areas, systems development, and technological
functions; and
WHEREAS, the Defense Department has recommended the location
of this facility at Los Alamitos, in Orange County, California,
because of the large amount of available government land, the
availability of supporting industry, the proximity to closely related
Navy installations, and the early date by which the facility could
be completed; and
WHEREAS, Orange County, California, offers the unique
combination of a favorable climate, a progressive business community,
a large reservoir of highly trained personnel, a wide variety of
housing, excellent recreation facilities, fine public schools, and a
number of outstanding colleges and universities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana, California, does hereby endorse the location of
the Navy's Undersea Warfare Center at Los Alamitos, California, and
does hereby express its support of the Board of Supervisors of Orange
County in its cooperation with the Defense Department to secure
Congressional approval for and early completion of this most important
defense installation.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at its regular meeting held on the 19th day of June, 1967.
