All of Talbert Avenue within the City limits of Santa kna, and within all of Orange County, if possible, should be changed back to Mackrthur Boulevard. Then, all of the Talbert Avenue desig- nations on the Newport Freeway should be replaced with Main Street designations and appropriate destination and directional signing for Main Street should be placed on the Mackrthur off- ramp sign and over Mackrthur Boulevard to South Main Street. 2. There should be signing to direct traffic off Baker Street over Red Hill kvenue to South Main Street because access for the southern end of Main Street is very important now and will be- come much more important in the future as this area continues its rapid development. To accomplish this purpose, at least 3 signs are needed: (a) A sign indicating Main Street on the Newport Freeway at the Baker Street off-ramp; (b) A sign at the intersection of Baker and Red Hill indicating the direction of Main Street; and (c) A sign at the intersection of Red Hill and Main Street indicating the direction of Main Street, Santa Aha. 3. A sign reading "Main Street, Santa Ana, Next Right" should be placed on the Newport Freeway just north of the Paularino Avenue off-ramp and south of the San Diego overpass. 4. The sign indicating "Santa Ana, Next 6 Exits" should be placed at a point from south of the MacArthur off-ramp to a point immediately north of the San Diego Freeway heading east. 5. The sign on the Newport Freeway designating the Dyer Road off- ramp should also indicate access for Grand Avenue since these are important entrances into the southern section of Santa Ana'a industrial area. 6. In addition to the present signs for the 4th Street off-ramp, there should be a sign on the Newport Freeway indicating "County Civic Center-Santa Ana" at 4th Street; a directional sign o at the end of the 4th Street off-ramp should also be placed to indicate that the County Civic Center is on the western end of 4th Street. The sign for 17th Street off-ramp now takes up two lines. This should be consolidated onto one line, as has been done on other signs on the freeway, and the second line should then be used to designate "Santa Ana." Signs indicating off-ramps for "McFadden Avenue," "Edinger Avenue," "Dyer Road," and "MacArthur Boulevard" should have the words "Santa Ana" added to each sign. The signs for the Garden Grove Freeway west should add "Santa since the Bristol Street interchange is within our city limits. Headinq South on Route 55 (Newport Freeway) Recommendations: 1. The overhead destination sign indicating Riverside and Newport Beach, should also be marked for "Santa Ana;" this sign is located just west of freeway marker ~91. 2. The destination sign indicating "Orange, Tustin, and Newport Beach," which is located near marker ~51/78, should also indicate "Santa Aha." 3. The overhead sign just north of Chapman Avenue indicating "Newport Beach" designation should also indicate "Santa Ana." 4. Sign on the LaVeta overpass bridge indicates "Newport Beach" destination and "Garden Grove Freeway, West;" should also indicate "Santa Ana." 5. The sign located north of 4th Street indicates "4th Street, Tustin" should also indicate "County Civic Center" and appropriate directional indicating sign should be placed at the end of the 4th Street ramp indicating the Civic Center is to the west. 6. Signs indicating off-ramps for "McFadden Avenue," "Edinger Avenue," "Dyer Road," and "MacArthur Boulevard," should have the words "Santa Ana" added to each sign. The sign on the Newport Freeway designating the Dyer Road off- ramp should also indicate access for Grand and Warner Avenues since these are important entracnes into the Southern section of Santa Ana's industrial area.
