HomeMy WebLinkAbout68-005RESOLUTION 68-5 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA CREATING A CITIZEN-GOVERNMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR TP~AFFIC SAFETY WHEP~EAS, the National Safety Council reported its inventory of the traffic safety activities of the City of Santa Ana, which report recommended the creation of both governmental and citizen advisory committees; and WHEREAS, the City Council appointed a subcommittee consisting of two of its members for the purpose of studying the traffic safety within the City of Santa Ana; and WHEREAS, this subcommittee made its study and reported its findings and recommendations to the City Council at its regular meeting held on the 18th day of December, 1967; and WHEREAS, the recommendations contained in the report were accepted by the 6 to 1 vote of the City Council; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the city of Santa Ana does hereby appoint a committee of eleven (11) persons, to be known as "CITIZEN-GOVERNMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY"; seven (7) of the members to be selected from the citizens of the City of Santa Aha. The remaining four (4) members of the committee shall be representatives of the following governmental units: Office of the Superintendent of Schools, the Traffic Engineering Section of the Department of Public Works of the City, the Traffic Section of the Santa Ana Police Department, and the office of the City Manager. Vacancies from the "citizen" members of the committee shall be filled by appointment by the City Council, to serve at their pleasure. The remaining four members shall be appointed by their respective department heads to serve at their pleasures and may be replaced from time to time as each department head in his sole discretion may decide. year. The committee shall meet not less than four (4) times each The responsibilitie~ of the Committee shall be: (a) To discuss official responsibility for traffic safety, resolve inter-departmental problems and provide coordinated planning and action for traffic safety and relief of congestion; (b) To make recommendations to the Santa Ana City Council for consideration and action; (c) To consider matters referred by the Santa Ana City Council; and (d) To hold public hearings on those matters when so instructed by the City Council. As rapidly as possible after the organization of the committee, at its first meeting it shall cause to be prepared a list of the specific areas toward which it proposes to direct its efforts. These declarations shall be submitted to the Council for review. The Council shall then delineate the areas within the general framework submitted that it considers to be of primary current importance and to which the efforts of the committee will be most fruitful.
