HomeMy WebLinkAbout69-149RESOLUTION 69-149 PAYING TRIBUTE AND HONOR TO THE SANTA ANA SOCCER TEAM ON WINNING THE CALIFORNIA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE CITY OF SANTA ANA WHEREAS, there is in Santa Ana a self-supported soccer team of which Manuel Raya is the captain; and W~EREAS, having participated in the California Soccer League for several years, the Santa Ana Soccer Team this year contended for the championship; and WHEREAS, following its defeat of the highly favored Imperio team, the Santa Ana Soccer Team encountered the Chongos del Zamora; and WHEREAS, following a game played on August 1st, 1969, which ended in a tie, the championship was determined by the Santa Ana Soccer Team defeating the Chongos del Zamora by a score of 2 to 1 on August 9, 1969; and WIqEREAS, by this victory the Santa Ana Soccer Team won the coveted Miller Cup, bringing great honor and recognition to the City of Santa Ana and particularly to the team members; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Ana pays tribute hereby to the Santa Ana Soccer Team for its splendid accomplishment in winning the Miller Cup, emblematic of the championship of the California Soccer League~ and bestows honor upon the captain and coach of the team, Manuel Raya, and upon the outstanding and skilled athletes who make up the team, as follows: A1 Amezcua, Antonio Mendoza, Ramiro Eulloque, Jos~ Arceo, Francisco Gomez, Heriberto G6mez, Francisco Cervantes, Rogelio Lucatero, Salvador G6mez, Vincente Sol~s, Roberto Muratalla, Jos~ ' Garcla, and Ruben Renterla. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the city Council of the City of Santa Aha at its regular meeting held on the 6th day of October, 1969.
