HomeMy WebLinkAbout71-012RESOLUTION 71-12 ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING TI~E FEBRUARY 23, 1971, TAX OVERRIDE ELECTION WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Board of Education, in its wisdom and judgment, has decreed that additional funds are required to operate effectively the Santa Ana Unified School District in its educatio~r~l program; and WHEREAS, the impact of the effectiveness of the schools has a direct bearing on the economic growth and prosperity of the City, County, State and Nation; and WHEREAS, the election scheduled by the School Board is for February 23, 1971, to increase the general purpose tax rate from $2.99 to $3.53 per $100 of assessed valuation; and WHEREAS, the existing $.79 tax override which was approved by the voters in 1969 expires as of June 30, 1971; and WHEREAS, the continuance of the $.79 rate and the addi- tional $.54 is essential for the school district to maintain its balance in keeping with the inflationary spiral and to meet the need to hire additional teachers to reduce overcrowded conditions at the secondary level; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Ana does hereby endorse and support the February 23, 1971, tax override election. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 1st day of February 1971.
