HomeMy WebLinkAbout71-052RESOLUTION 71-5Z EXPRESSING CONCERN FOR AMERICAN PRISONERS OF WAR AND URGING NEGOTIATIONS FOR THEIR PROMPT RELEASE WHEREAS, the Vietnam War has, in some measure, touched all of our lives; and WHEREAS, the Vietnam War has taken a particularly heavy toll among the families whose sons, husbands and fathers are prisoners of war, or listed as missing in action; and WHEREAS, government can best respond to those mandates of leadership by uniting in purpose those whom it represents; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha urges its citizens and civilized persons everywhere to unite in a concentrated community of effort to inundate the government of Hanoi with letters and telegrams requesting immediate establishment of sincere negotiations with our government for the release of American prisoners of war and information concern- ing Americans missing in action. ]BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That June 14th, Flag Day, be personally commemorated by each citizen andthathe send a letter or telegram to his Congressman and Senator and to Hanoi carrying the message of this Resolution demonstrating that the conscience of all civilized men everywhere cry out against Hanoi's unconscionable stand regarding the unknown status of those reported as missing in action and those who are prisoners, demanding their early release. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 7th day of June, 1971.
