Councilmen Councilmen William Jerome, J.L.McBride, Th0masF;.Lars~$, Milford W. DahL, Qourtney R.,Chandler. None Each member of the City Council having received copies of the Minutes of ~anuary l?th, 1955, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried. In Re Bi~s Sale of property on Wa]nut Street On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the Clerk was authorized to open bids for the s ale of a Vacant lot described as Lot 17, Block "P" of the Heil Tract, measuring 501x128~ and located on the north side of Walnut Street between Flower and Booth Streets, as follows: Bid of Ralph J. Ehlis in the sum of $1,351.00. Cashier's check in the sum of $135.10. Bid of C. Chapman Lantz in the sum of $1,285.00. Cashier's check in the sum of $150.00. Bid of Miles Thomas in the sum of $1,600.00. Cashier's check in the sum of $175.00. Bid of D. W. Langton in the sum of $1,300.00. Cash in the Sum of $130.00. The Mayor asked if there were any other bidders whereupon D,W.Langto and deposited an additional $60.00. raised his bid to $1,760.00~/ It was moved by Councilman Dahl, seconded by Larsen and carried, that the property be sold to D. W. In Re Hearing "Librascope Annex" Ordinance declaring annexation Langton, as the highest bidder, in the sum of $1,760.00; proper officials were authorized to enter into escrow and execute deed; all other bids were rejected and checks ordered returned. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded, by Larsen and c~rried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and w~ri~nce granted ~o Leu J. Kllgore to permit the uae of property at ltl and ll5 East Pomona Street for construction of a modern two-story, eight-unit apartment building on each lot, with 40' setback lines instead of the required 50' setback lines, with off-stresS parking for eight c~rs on each lot, the entire parking area to be black-topped. Communications were re~d from the Planning Commission recommending granting of variance to D~vid S. A~cher and Lester L. Blount, to permit varying the buildin~ setbacks on property situated at ~he to permit construction of a medicml building, northeast corner of Seven,h and Bush Strcete~/snd from the Dep~.rtment of Public Works theft roplscemen~ of broken sidewalk is needed. On motion of Councilman Larsen, seconded by Jerome and csrrled, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved end variance granted to Ralph C. and Isabelle S. Roper, to permit the use of prop- er,y at 1505 North Broadway, as the Santa Aha office of the Children's Home Society of C~lifornia, subject to certain conditions. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the recommendction of the Planning Commission was approved and w~riance to permit use of the existing rttmpus room South Broadway, for living quart~.;rs, and providing ~ place to da light cooking, granted to James T. In Re Variance Steve Brush In Re Variance Ysidro Ruvslcava recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and v~riance granted to Steve l~ush to contact his business associates by telephon~ from his home at 1337 Magnolia Avenue and to i~sue pay cheeks once a week to four workmen applicators of siding; the mai~ office for his business being located in C~rden Grove. ~-~ Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending denial of w_riance application of Ysidro Ruvalceva to permit the con- struction of ,n ,',ddition to the front of existing residence al; 12~7 West Fairview Avenue, s~id addition to extend to the sidewalk in front of the property, to be used for the business of making tortillss, tamales, etc., and s,les room, and, from the Dep~rtment of Public Works recommending that the building sot no closer than 42' from the center line of Fairview Avenue so that the street may be widened at a fut,zre dat~. Six persons stood in protest. On motion of Councilma~ McBride, seconded by Lsrsen and carried, the recommendation of the In Re Variance Llmer Lee Mylar Planning Commissio~ w~ ~pproved end variance denied. , Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending denial of variance application of Elmer Lee Mylar to permit the use In Re Amend. ~%oplic~tion Reclassify north side ~ 17th Street; south side 17th Street. Commission initiated property on the east side of Standard Avenue, beginning at a point. approximately 536.30' north of Delhi Road, end extending 410' uorth on Standard Avenue, with s de?th of 125~, for location of office and showroom, in connection with proposed reedy-mix concrete plant end building mat~.rial business on property situated outside the City limits. Glenn Bailey stated the proposed business would be detri- mental to the property owners in the ares. Robert Shaller, Vice- President of the Msrotta Corporation said dust rslsed by the operatic: of the ready-mix plant would be detriment~,l to the equipment in their manufacturing plant. Va. rious nearby property owners objected to the proposed plant due to the dust and dirt and the incre~c of traffic on Standard Avenue. Attorney Thomas Brown, on behalf of the applic~ht, stated that the safety of thc residents in the neighbor~ ~.~<~ ~mIob~ld not be jeopardized due to the operation of the trucks.
