OPPOSING ASSEMBLY BILL 232
WHEREAS, present law permits employees of a local
agency reasonable time off without loss of compensation
or other benefits when formally meeting and conferring
under the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 232 would extend such law to
permit employees of a local agency time off "to prepare
for representation and to represent employees of the
public agencies within the scope of the employee organiza-
tion's representation of local safety employees;" and
WHEREAS, such an extension of the law would involve
extensive time off for certain local employees which would
result in increased costs to local government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council
of the City of Santa Ana oppose Assembly Bill 232 and urge
that it be defeated.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Clerk of the Council
of the City of Santa Aha is hereby directed to forward a
copy of this Resolution to Senators Dennis E. Carpenter and
James E. Whetmore; Assemblymen Robert E. Badham, John V.
Briggs, Robert Burke and Kenneth Cory; and to the members
of the Assembly Committee on Employment and Public Employees.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Santa Aha at its regular meeting held on the ~th day of
