MALONE, do hereby certify that I am the Clerk of the Council of the City of Santa Ana; that the foregoing Resolution was introduced to said Council at its regular meeting held on the ~t day of May 1972, and was at said meeting passed and adopted by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Patterson~ Evans~ Yamamoto~ Griset NOES: Herrin, Markel, Villa ABSENT: None APPROVED AS TO FORM: C~RK OF THE COUNCIL will OF SANTA ANA ASSISTANT COORDINATOR - NEIGllBORIIOOD CENTER DEFINITION Under supervision of the Coordinator - Neighborhood Center, assists in the general operation of the facility including the planning, scheduling and coordination of use by social agencies providing services and programs for the residents of the area. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Meets with individuals 'and groups in the neighborhood relative to a wide variety of complaints, problems, concerns and needs and assists in the development of courses of action directed toward attaining solutions; assists in planning and scheduling activities of neighborhood center volunteers; establishes and maintains working relationships with a variety of public and private agencies in order to develop and expand social service programs; recommends neighborhood center policies and procedures; encourages use of the center by all segments of the community; provides and gathers information regarding a variety of community services and resources through means of interview and counseling, telephone contact and group gatherings; assists in fostering greater citizen partici- pation with city administration; performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS The work of this class involves assisting with the implementation of programs which help meet econfimic, health, educational and social needs and problems in the community. The ability to work with people of various economic ami age levels and cultural backgrounds is of prime importance. MINIMUM BASIC REQUIREMENTS Six months' experience in community organization or social welfare work affording a' sufficient expogure and understanding of the processes of intergroup relations supple- mented by the completion of the educational equivalent of 45 college level units includ- ing course work in the fields of psychology and the social sciences. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge Of community programs and organizations; ability to understand human relation- ships and problems of people of diverse backgrounds and age levels; skill in interviewing techniques and in establishing rapport to determine the person's needs and to assure that policies, and programs of the center are responsive to the residents of the area served; ability to establish close contact between city government and citizens; ability to prepare and present written and verbal reports; ability to follow instructions and work without direct supervision.
