A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA PROCLAIMING NATIONAL
OPPORTUNITIES INDUSTRIALIZATION CENTER
DAY IN SANTA ANA
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has announced
that October 11, 1972 will be proclaimed National OIC Day; and
WHEREAS, Opportunities Industrialization Centers of America
are celebrating their 8th year as the Nation's fastest growing private,
non-profit manpower training program; and
WHEREAS, the philosophy of Opportunities Industrialization
Center means a way out for America's poor and those who carry the
burden of America's poor; and
WHEREAS, the theme of OIC Day, 1972 is "Everybody can be
Somebody" which recognizes the need of all of our citizens to learn
marketable skills and to earn their own rightful place in American
society; and
WHEREAS, the only acceptable alternative to the terrifying
despair that has led to the destruction of countless lives and valuable
property in the inner-cities across America is pride in self and hope
for a brighter tomorrow, both of which OIC provides; and
WHEREAS, the local Opportunities Industrialization Center,
the only OIC branch in Orange County, is midway into its first year
of operation in Santa A_ua; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Opportunities Industrialization
Center plans to celebrate its Grand Opening and National OIC Day with
a week of festivities intended to bridge the gaps between races, cultures
and other disparate segments of our City and County; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors has
proclaimed OIC Day and OIC Week in Orange County; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that this City Council
does hereby proclaim Wednesday, October 11, 1972 as National OIC Day
in Santa Ana, and does further proclaim the week of October 9 through
October 15, 1972 as Santa Aha OIC Week.
