The Manager recommended the rejection of all bids covering the furnish-
lng of 10,000 lineal feet of 10 inch cast iron pipe. The tabulation

Angeline P. Daly granting of variance to Angeline P. Daly to convert a single-family
dwelling into a duplex, at 302 South Artesia St~o~t an'd from the
Department of Public Works that replacing of all broken sidewalks on
Artesia and Pine Streets and paving out to center line of the street
on Pine Street, the entire length of the lot,is needed. On motion of

Communication was read from ?feet Coast Neon Company relative to
encroachment of electric sign at Cisco~s Drive In at 1227 West 17th
Street. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and
carried, proper officials were authorized to si~n the new electric
sign agreement with West Coast Sigm Company et al, subject to the
condition that they be allowed to encroach 24 inches on the setback
because the posts are already located and an erro~ ~as made in said
location.
On motion of Councilman D~I, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
resignation of Herbert L. Hill, as a member of the Library Bom-d,
effective June 15th, 1955, was received and filed. On motio~ of
Councilman D~al, seconded by Jerome and carried, the Clerk was inst~uct-
ed to aSdress a communication to Mr. Hill thanking him for his service~
on the Library Board and expressing regret at his resignation.
On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
communication from Orange County Chapter, The American Institute of
Architects, volunteering the services of its membership on Planning
Commissions or Zoning Committees as well as other committee activities
was received and filed.
On motion'of Councilman Hein].y, seconded by Da2al and carried, the
communication from the Republican ~omen of Santa Ama, stating the
organization is opposed to books being bought or made available in the
public libraries by authors who are knc~ to be Communists or members
of Communist Front or subversive organizations, and requesting permis-
