Chaad!er Each member of the City Council having received copies of the Minutes of June 6th, 1955, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried. In Re Hearing "memmer Annsx" Ordinancs dsc!aring annexation This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the Cit of certain uninhabited territory designated "Lemmer Annex" and no protests being received; on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Hei~ly and carried, the following Ordinance entitled: "Ordinance declaring the annexation of that certain territory designated ~Lemmer Annex~'' In Re Hearing ~Spurgeon Memorial Annex" - Ordinance declaring annexation was introduced,, considered and placed on file for second reaeing. . This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the City of certain uninhabited territory designated "Spurgeon Memorial Annex", ~nd no protests being re~ived; on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the following Ordinance entitled: "Ordinance declaring the annexation of that certain territory designated 'Spurgeon Memorial Annex~'' In Re Hearing "English Anne×" Ordinance declaring annexation was introduced, considered and placed on file for second r ea~ing. This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the City of certain uninhabited territory designated "English Annex", and no protests being received; on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the following Ordinance entitled: "Ordinance declaring the annexation of that certain territory designated ~English AnnexTM In Re Hearing Vacate alley in Tract No. 159 Goetz ~t. between Qypress and Orange Resol. The Manager recommended the rejection of all bids covering the furnish- lng of 10,000 lineal feet of 10 inch cast iron pipe. Daly granting of variance to Angeline P. Daly to convert a single-family dwelling into a duplex, at 302 South Artesia St~o~t an'd from the Department of Public Works that replacing of all broken sidewalks on Artesia and Pine Streets and paving out to center line of the street on Pine Street, the entire length of the lot,is needed. On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the recommendation and v~riance granted, of the Planning Commission was approved/subject to the condition that the broken sidewalks on Artesia and Pine Streets be repaired and the applicant not b~ required to pave out to the center line of the str~*et In Re Variance Frank J. Foral on Pine Street, the entire length of the lot. Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending granting of variance to Frank J. Foral to construct a one-story build- ing on front 54t of the lot at 1]1 East Stanford Street, waiving front and west side yard requirements, and use the building for retail business of selling and repairing musical instruments and related item subject to certain conditions, and from the Department of Public l~orks that replacing of broken sidewalk in front of the lot, is needed. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, proper officials were authorized to si~n the new electric sign agreement with West Coast Sigm Company et al, subject to the condition that they be allowed to encroach 24 inches on the setback because the posts are already located and an erro~ ~as made in said location. On motion of Councilman D~I, seconded by Jerome and carried, the resignation of Herbert L. Hill, as a member of the Library Bom-d, effective June 15th, 1955, was received and filed. On motio~ of Councilman D~al, seconded by Jerome and carried, the Clerk was inst~uct- ed to aSdress a communication to Mr. Hill thanking him for his service~ on the Library Board and expressing regret at his resignation. On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication from Orange County Chapter, The American Institute of Architects, volunteering the services of its membership on Planning Commissions or Zoning Committees as well as other committee activities was received and filed. On motion'of Councilman Hein].y, seconded by Da2al and carried, the communication from the Republican ~omen of Santa Ama, stating the organization is opposed to books being bought or made available in the public libraries by authors who are knc~ to be Communists or members of Communist Front or subversive organizations, and requesting permis- sion to appear before the Library Board reference the matter, was received and filed. On motion of Councilman D~al, seconded by HeinRy and carried, permission was grAnt~, to attend the' Library Board meet- lhg and the Clerk directed to advise *the OrEanlzati'on that this re- quest was the first notice received by the Council with reference to the matter. ,, On motion of Councilman Meinly, seconded by Market smd carried, the communication from the Division of Highways, with map and certified copy of Resolution attached, adopting the route for a portion of State Highway in Orange County, between Hanson Street and the Santa Ama Freeway, road VII-Ora-179-A, Santa Ama, was received and filed. On motion of Co~ncilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the statement from Diehl and Company of condition of City funds for the period July 1, 1954 to March 31st,' 1955, was received and filed. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the Purchasing Agent was granted permission to advertise for bi~s for furnishing and installing electrical circuits in Building T-9, at the Com~uunity Center, in accordanc~ with Specification No. 672-2; bids to be opened July 5, 1955.
