A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA ESTABLISHING GUIDES TO
SCREENING OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT OR
APPURTENANCE~ PURSUANT TO SECTION 41-622
OF THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE.
WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Planning Commission held a public
hearing at a regularly scheduled meeting on November 27, 1972
on a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance of the City of
Santa Ana pertaining to the screening of mechanical equipment
or appurtenances on buildings which are hereafter constructed
or expanded; and
WHEREAS, following said hearing the Santa Ana Planning
Commission did by Resolution No. 6017 recommend to the City
Council the adoption of said proposed amendment to zoning ordi-
nance consisting of new Section 41-210 and Section 41-622 of
the Santa Ana Municipal Code on November 27, 1972; and
WHEREAS, on November 27, 1972 by Resolution No. 6108, the
Santa Ana Planning Commission did further recommend the adoption
and approval of guides to screening of mechanical equipment for
appurtenances;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Aha
does resolve that, pursuant to Section 41-622 of the Santa Ana
Municipal Code, the following "Guides to Screening of Mechanical
Equipment or Appurtenances" are approved and shall read as follows:
GUIDES TO SCREENING OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT
AND APPURTENANCES
Conformance with the following requirements will adequately
screen mechanical equipment or appurtenances on the roof or
exterior of a building:
Ail roof-mounted mechanical equipment and/or
appurtenances, which project vertically more
than one and one-half (1-1/2~ feet above the
roof or roof parapet, are to be screened by an
enclosure which is detailed consistent with the
building.
Ail roof-mounted mechanical equipment and/or
appurtenances, which project one and one-half
(1-1/2) feet or less above the roof or roof
parapet are to be painted consistent with the
color scheme of the building in all cases.
No mechanical equipment or appurtenances are
to be exposed on the wall surface of a building.

Exhaust fans shall be screened by a wall, a
fence or landscape materials and be located
below the fascia and/or roof line of the
building. Further, they shall be located
on the rear or "hidden" side of the building,
to be painted to match the surface to which
attached, if visible.

Incinerator vents are to be located on the rear
or "hidden" side of the building in all cases.
Roof-mounted ventilators are to be a maximum of
one and one-half (1-1/2) feet above the point
to which attached and are to be painted or pre-
finished consistent with the color scheme of
the building unless screened by a parapet wall.
Vents, louvers, exposed flashing, tanks, stacks,
overhead doors, roofing service doors, sliding
doors and all other doors are to be painted con-
sistent with the color scheme of the building.
The materials, placement and structural support
of screens shall be in conformity with the pro-
visions of Chapter VIII, Santa Ana Municipal
Code.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Santa Ana City Council
finds that the proposed guides will not be detrimental to
the general plan.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 7%h
