HomeMy WebLinkAbout73-033RESOLUTION 73-33 STATING AND DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, ON APRIL 3, 1973 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana, by Ordinance NS-1155, duly called for and provided for the hold- ing of a General Municipal Election on April 3, 1973; said election was called to fill vacancies in public offices and for voting on a measure proposing amendment to the Charter; and WHEREAS, notice of said election, notice of nominees for public office, notice of charter amendment, and notice of the election officers and polling places were regularly given in time, form and manner as provided by law; the sample ballots, and the statements submitted by the candidates for public office, were regularly mailed to all electors within the city; and all matters pertaining to the election were accomplished in accordance with the Charter or Election Code provisions; and said election on said date was duly held at the polling places designated and the votes cast thereat were canvassed and the returns thereof made in the time, manner, and form provided by law; and WHEREAS, the measure submitted to vote of voters was as follows, to wit: PROPOSITION A: - Shall Article IV, Division I, Section 401 of the Charter of the City of Santa Ana be amended re- ducing from two (2) years, to one (1) year, the time a person must be a resident and registered elector of the City imme- diately preceding the date of his election or appointment to be eligible to hold the office of councilman; and reducing from one (1) year to six (6) months, the time a person must be a resident of the ward from which he is elected at the time he is elected to be eleigible for nomination from the ward within which such person resides? WHEREAS, on the 10th day of April, 1973, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana duly assembled at its usual place of meeting, the returns of said Election having been canvassed by the Clerk of the Council. NOWt THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: That the General Municipal Election was duly held on April 3, 1973, and the votes cast thereat were duly and regu- larly canvassed and the returns thereof made in the time, form, and manner required; that all things were regularly done as required by law; that the absent voter ballots were duly canvassed and counted as required by law and the result of such count is hereinafter set forth on Exhibit A attached hereto and made a part hereof; that the Clerk of the Council has duly canvassed the returns of said election and from the said returns it appears, and this City Council finds, that -1~ RESOLUTION 73-33 the total number of votes given in the City to each person, to ballot Proposition A, and the whole number of votes cast in the City, are as set forth on Exhibit A, attached hereto and made a part hereof. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That at said General Municipal Election Jerry M, Patterson, residing in Ward 1; James E. Ward, residing in Ward 3; John Garthe residing in Ward 5; and Harry K. Yamamoto, residing in Ward 7, were elected to the office of Member of the City Council for a term of four years. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That ballot Proposition A was defeated.
