SPECIAL RESOLUTION COMMENDING FORMER
MAYOR LORIN GRISET
WHEREAS, Lorin Griset has been an active, progressive,
dedicated member of the Santa Ana City Council since he was
elected to this office on April 4, 1967; and
and
WHEREAS, Lorin Griset was elected by his fellow Councilmen
as Mayor of the City of Santa Ana on April 7, 1969; and
WHEREAS, Lorin Griset has served his post as Mayor of the
City of Santa Ana with ability, vigor, honor and pride continu-
ously thereafter until he resigned this high office on April 2,
1973, in order to honor another of his fellow Councilmen; and
WHEREAS, his entire tenure with the City of Santa Ana has
been characterized by his integrity, and as a champion of the
rights of all men; and
WHEREAS, Lorin Griset has held with steadfastness and courage
his conviction of the dignity of man and his God-given right to
stand among his peers and before his Creator as an equal; and
WHEREA~ all of Lorin Griset's actions have been motivated
by his love of his fellow man and his abiding faith in God, and
by his conviction that God would reveal to him the way if only he
would stand quietly and listen for his word; and
~EREAS, Lorin Griset has by following his principles, love
of God and his fellow man, maintained at all times willingness to
listen to all who came before him whether or not they had warm
words of praise or unjustifiable words of scorn, whether they sup-
ported his programs or spoke forcefully against them; and
W~EREAS, an impressive number of actions were taken during
the course of his years as a Councilman and as Mayor; and
WHEREAS, among the many actions that the Council took during
his administration as Mayor, several stand out as hallmarks of
his leadership and farsightedness; among these significant events
of his tenure are:
(1) The creation of the City of Santa Ana Housing
Authority.
(2) The establishment of the City of Santa Ana
Redevelopment Agency.
(3) City participation in public transportation.
(4) The formation of the City of Santa Ana Human
Relations Commission.
(5) The creation of the Cultural Heritage Committee.
(6)
The passage of an ordinance increasing residential
development fees to assist the City in park acquisi-
tion and development.

The passage of an ordinance for the establish-
ment of Planned Residential Development.
(8)
The passage of several ordinances providing,
among other things, the prohibition of certain
obnoxious, immoral, and degrading conduct, the
enhancement of the appearance of signs and bill-
boards existing within the City of Santa Ana,
and the establishment of aesthetic guidelines to
enhance the beauty and living environment of the
City of Santa Ana; and
WHEREAS, during his years as Mayor of the City of Santa Ana
Lorin Griset has continued as a leader in development, building,
and the advancement of human rights, and has maintained a high
level of governmental efficiency, and bas offered its citizens
efficient and responsible municipal service;
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA: That the City Council, for itself and for all per-
sons for whom it represents, hereby expresses appreciation to
Lorin Griset for the unselfish, extensive, courageous service
rendered by him to all the citizens of Santa Aha, and for the
many tangible and intangible results of bis labors, of which
there are many.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at a special meeting held on the 10th day of April, 1973.

the Council of the City of Santa Ana; that the foregoing Resolution
