Taylor Each member of the City Council having received copies of the l~inutes of January 21, 1957, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion of Couno~lm~n Heinly, seconded by Jerome and carried. Presentation of award to David G. Salcido Hearing "Goetz King Street Annex" Ordinance The Mayor presented a merit certificate and a cash award to David G. Salcido, 1B1B Eastwood Avenue, who was the outstanding driver of the month in the Santa Aha Safe Driving Campaign. This being the date set for hearing pretests on annexation to the City of certain ,mtnhabited territory designated "Goetz King Street Annex", and there being no protests, on motion of COll~C~lm~n ~ark~l, seCOnd by Neinly and carried, the fol- lowing Ord~ n-~ce entitled: Hearing "First and T~stin SW Aunex" "Ordinance declaring the ~nnexation of that certain territory designated 'Goetz King Street ~mnex'" was introduced, considered and placed~ on file for second reading. This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the City of certain uninhabited territory designated "First and Tustin SW Annex", the Clerk read pro- tests from L.A.Eavens, Geo. A. Gullck, H. G. Wilson, J. W. Broomell, Walter H. Leimert Company, Leroy G. and Eazel E. Connelly, Jane S. Lash and Mildred P.Browni: On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Jerc~ae and carried, the protests were received and filed. L.Metcalf (west side North Main Bt. ) On motion of Councilman Jer~ae, seconded by Markel and carried, the recomm,endation of the Planning C~mmiselon was approved and the variance of M.J.Brock & Sons, Inc. granted to permit the erection of directional signs on undeveloped property in Tracts Nos. 2208 and 2209, located on the west side of Bristol Street between St. Andrew Place and St. Gertrude Place, in connection with housing program now under way, the signs to remain for a period of time not to exceed one year, as follows: west side of Bristol Street between St. Andrew Place and St. Gertrude Place, six 6' x 6' double-face signs, Lots 1, 19, 37, 72, ~O and 91, Tract 2209; two 10' x 20' s~ngle-face signs, Lots 37 and 72, Tract 2209, instead of the 20' 6" x 12' single- face signs requested; one 3' x 10' sign, Lot 55, Tract 2209, and on the south side of Glenwood Place between Bristol Street and Pacific Avenue, four 6' x 6' single- face signs, Lots 47, 49, 51 and Ill, Tract 2209 and one 6' x 6' single-face sign, LOt 43, Tract 2208, subject to condition that two bonds be furnished, in ~m~unt of $100.00 each, to guarantee removal of the signs at the expiration of one year. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the rec~ndation of the Planning ~ission was approved and the variance of Bristol Street Baptist Church gx~nted to permit construction of a two-story building on property at 1818 South Bristol Street, to be used for a sanctuary and Sunday School class rooms, subject to a condition. Councilman Heinly disc,n1 ified himself on the variance application of E~,ntce L. Caldwell. On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Jerome and carried, the ree~endation of the Planning ¢~miasion was approved and the variance of Eunice L. et al Caldwell~granted to permit the use of certain property located on the north side of Sixteenth Street near the end of Artesia Street, for off-street parking for the First Christian Church property adjoining on the east side. C~m-Anication was read from the P]-n~fug C.-~.~..~ssion recommending denial of variance application of Herbert Thwaite to permit construction of a duplex on property located at 1901 West Fifteenth Street. Mrs. Florence Bigler stated she and her daughter had planned on using the proposed duplex as a family home and as the property is a corner lot it is ideally suited for that purpose, also there are duplexes in the t,w,~diate vicinity. On motion of Coun¢flm~- Je~, seconded by ~arkel and carried, the recommendation of the Plamuing ~,..=.ission w~s approved and the variance denied. On motion of 0oanet]man Jet, ne, seconded by ~arkel and ceAse, led, a notice of public hearing was ordered published setting the date of hearing on February 18, 1957, on Planning C.-~.-.~tssion initiated ame~2,~nt, for the modification of the existing and C-2 Districts abuttt-g the north and south sides of East and West Seventeenth Street, between the east corporate limits at Wright and Mabury Streets, and the west corporate ltm~ts at the Santa Aha River, by the addition thereto, of PK. On motion of Councilm-- Je~ seconded by Markel and carried, a notice of public hearing was ordered published setting the date of heart~g on February 18, 1957, on the amendment application of B. L. Metcalf, for the reclassification of property located on the west side of North Main Street, beginning at a point 270' north and 216' wes~ of the northeast corner of the intersection of Owens Drive and North Main Street, thence north 485.63', thence west to the Santa Ana Freeway, thence south- easterly along the Santa Ama Freeway to a point due west of the point of beginning, from the R~i and R-2 Districts to C-2-PK Districts. 174.. The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution~ on motion of Councilman Jer0m~, seconded by Reinly and carried, the following Resolution entitled "~esolution No. 57-24 concerning park!~-g limitations and curb markings in accordance therewith" establishing Re~l zones at Tenth and Arteeia Streets, at the P~rk, was considered and passed by the following vote: Councilmen Noes, Councilmen Absent, Councilmen Dale H. Taylor It was moved by Councilman Jerome, seconded by ~e~nly and carried, that the Resolution establishing a two-way stop intersection at Santa Clara and Santiago Avenue, ~e tabled. On ~aotion of Cou~cilm~, Markel, seconded by Je~ and carried, the written recc~- mendation of the City Manager, dated February 4, 1957, setting forth salary step increases for five employees, effective March 1, 1957, was received, filed and approved. On motion of Councilman Helnly, seconded by Markel and carried, the following Ordinance entitled: "Ordinance amending Sections 7400 and 7411 and adding 7411.1, 7421 and 7421.1 to the Santa Aaa Municipal Code regulat~ water service" was introduced, considered and placed on file for second reading. On motion of Councilm-~ Jex~me, seconded by l~rkel and cea~ied, the Mauager authorized to negotiate for the sale of a triangular piece of property, being 4~' on 2Oth Street and 84' deep along what was formerly the center line of 8purgeon Street.
