A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA REQUESTING THE BOARD
OF SUPERVISORS OF ORANGE COUNTY TO CON-
SOLIDATE A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF
THE CITY OF SANTA ANA WITH THE GENERAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 2, 1976.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana intends
to call a special election in the City of Santa Ana on November 2,
1976 for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the
City certain proposed amendments to the City Charter; and
WHEREAS, there will be a statewide general election held on
November 2, 1976; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that said special election of the
City of Santa Ana be consolidated with the statewide general election
to be held on the same date and that within the City of Santa Ana
the precincts, polling places and election officers be the same, and
that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange canvass the
returns of the special municipal election and that said general election
and special municipal election be held in all respects as if there were
only one election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana:
Section 1: That pursuant to the reqirements of Section
23302 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the Board
of Supervisors of the County of Orange is hereby requested to con-
sent to and order the consolidation with the general election of
November 2, 1976 of a special election of the City of Santa Ana to
be held upon the same date for the purpose of submitting to the
electors of the City of Santa Ana certain propositions to appear on
the ballot as follows:
CITY COUNCIL WARDS: Shall Sections 101.1, 101.2, : : :
101.3, 400 and 401.1 of the Charter be amended to : : :
require council wards to be based on population : YES : :
equality; to prohibit ward boundary changes within : : :
120 days prior to council elections; to provide : : :
for inclusion of newly annexed or consolidated : : :
territory in the most contiguous ward pending : : :
reapportionment; to delete references to division : NO : :
of the city into less than seven wards; and to : : :
establish initial terms for council members from : : :
wards to be created in the future?
CITY RIGHTS AND CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS. Shall : : :

Section 2: Said Board of Supervisors is hereby authorized
to canvass the returns of said special municipal election pursuant
to Section 23306 of the Elections Code of the State of California.
Section 3: The City of Santa Ana recognizes that addi-
tional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this con-
solidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any such costs.
Section 4: The Clerk of the Council is hereby directed
to file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of
Supervisors of the County of Orange and a certified copy of this
resolution with the Registrar of Voters of the County of Orange
not later than August 20, 1976.
