HomeMy WebLinkAbout76-128MJK:nr 10-13-76 RESOLUTION NO. 76-128 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE TO ENACT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING LOCAL PARAMEDIC PROGRAMS ON A PERMANENT BASIS WHEREAS, the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act has authorized the provision of paramedic services by local government as a pilot pro- gram; and WHEREAS, the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act has recently been extended to December 31, 1977; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has demonstrated its ability to meet the intemt of the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act through the effec- tive training of firemen-paramedics and the provision of emergency care in a timely and effective manner; and WHEREAS, over ten thousand victims in the City of Santa Ana have been provided emergency care through the Paramedic Program since its inception in February, 1974; and WHEREAS, Firemen-Paramedic Programs as authorized by the Wed- worth Townsend Act have proved to be an effective and worthwhile local public service: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Santa Ana urges the California State Legislature to enact legisla- tion that will provide permanent authority to local governments for the provision of Paramedic Services; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution to all area representatives of the State Legislature, the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities, as well as to the Mayors of all Orange County cities.
